OMC v elongated cushion brilliant

hi everyone

After some disappointing trading with an Indian vendor I am dipping my toe (or ring finger) in the pool again and trying a Chinese vendor

I want an elongated cushion style but not sure whether to get a brilliant style or OMC can anyone who has seen or purchased one from Starsgem or Tianyu tell me what they think of each cut and any pros or cons

I just put this at the bottom of the SG thread but I will add it here too. This is my favorite cut and I have had almost one of everything. I am doing two different versions of this one but will be getting these settings made at jewelers here because I am adding diamond accent stones and miligrain/hand engraving. I highly suggest to go for the elongated cushion or ask for a chubby cushion like I did with the one below for a more ‘squarer’ look. I did have a regular square version of the ACC that had the petals as my first ring project but it always looked a little dead in daylight. The kind with the long thin culet just looks good in every light. I will keep updating the SG thread as the projects get done. Tianyu cuts them with a bigger culet so they look quite a bit different but they will also cut it the way mine is too if you request. One project will be an 11x9 and the stone below is 11x10 both in G/H (near colorless).

No that is OMC or ACC....they use the term interchangeably with those vendors but there are some small differences. If you want an idea/image of a modern elongated brilliant cut then the Meghan Markle ring is a good example.

Yes, that is correct. My elongated one is 11x9 which is a 4 carat equivalent. They do face up a bit smaller than a round so you may have to go slightly bigger than what you think. 9x7 or 10x8 have been very common combinations in the elongated look. The smaller version that I had cut before upsizing was 9.5x8 which was somewhere in between. That is about a 2.5 carat equivalent and several people have copied that size & cut. It will face up similar to a 2 carat round. I would suggest the long thin culet for the best look. At the bottom of the SG thread, there are two or three more people that recently bought the elongated OMC also if you want to see what they look like set.
