Hi there, I am a new user to this board, i;ve been around for months just reading.. alot of information and a very helpful site..
I have a question, i saw an Omega chain with a string of diamonds(app. 5-6 around .10ct each) in it.. has anyone else seen something like this? i went back to the jewellary store and it was sold, so i didn''t have a chance to get a close up look at it... i tried searching everywhere on the net for a picture but i just can''t seem to find it..

if anyone has an idea where i could get a picture to show my jewellar it would be very helpful.. thank you..

I am not sure what you mean... could it be a necklace that has a portion of diamonds set in the front and chain towards the back ? (sort of like the front part of this continued with an omega chain in the back)

Or... are the diamonds set in the links of the chain (like this on an omega chain)

I must have seen the first version somewhere done with a wheat chain instead of omega, pink and yellow diamonds... The second I have not.

The half tennis necklace sounds relatively easy to make, on this forum, I suspect Wink Jones ("Wink") might have a better idea. He is responsible of a couple of very nice tennis bracelets and some more custom jewelry pieces - pretty much in the spirit of your project.

Thanks for the link SparkleSparkle but i couldn''t see the style i had imagined in by head...

adn valerie the style of the necklace would be in a sense similar to this

i know it''s totally off because it''s a ring, but imagine instead of one stone there are 6 and the gold part is an omega chain (except where the stones will be inserted)

thank you for the replys

Bad_a_b, disreguard the stone, is that the idea you had of the center link in the omega?

tonysgeko..

no that looks like a slide for an omega (like a pendant) i wanted something to be made inside the chain (by cuting the omega chain and insert a pendant so it is permanent) the whole necklace would look like the ring above i linked to.. maybe i should draw it in autocad and post it, it might help..

I think I know what you mean... It''s a kind of bypass design ! Wouldn''t have thought of that from the initial description

Be careful no-one messes too much with omega chains as they are prone to breaking or wearing badly near any rigid join.

Most simply do not like joins at all as the mesh inside does not get joined properly.

so Gary, i shouldn''t try to go on this venture? why is it difficult to cut an omega? at the joint of the pendant and the chain isn''t it just a solid joint? or does it need to flex there aswell? should i stay away and jsut do a slide? thank you for your input.

most omega chain has a central mesh like plaited fine wires which has round / circular little short cylinders crimped over the mesh to form the flattened surface. When you solder onto the chain after cutting it - you join to the little sqaused flatened covering - but the mesh that holds it together usually does not make the join - and there is no way to tell - so onday the link that is joined parts company with the rest of the omega and the mesh.

it is sometimes possible - but most jewellers I have seen attempt it just stuff it up.

Garry is right - it is hard to incorporate bits of omega chain in any design. Not impossible - just a rather specialized task. I can''t know how confortable is your jeweler with this, or if off-the-rack omega necklaces are done "the right way". My jeweler does these... but he is a bit far. By extrapolation, I thought everyone handles omega chain.

There should be designs like that around. I did try one on not long ago, but do not know the manufacturer off the bat.

are all omega chains the same? i have seen 2 differnet styles.. one that is hollow one one side and one that is reversible, both sides are finished.. the one that is hollow didtn; look like there was a mesh inside, that is the one my jewellar said they can modify,, or is there a mesh that i can;t see, maybe weaved under the hollow part?

you cant see the mesh.

Some are made with a spiral - they are the best bet to work on.
