OMG!!! He proposed on Monday!!!!! He planned this trip out to Phoenix a while ago. Stupid me, I thought it was just to get out of the cold weather, catch a Cubs game and celebrate Spring Break (he''s in a masters program). On Easter weekend, my parents start calling us and were acting all goofy. I mention this to J in passing as we''re waiting around in the airport. BTW, getting to Phoenix was a DISASTER! I HATE US AIR!

(my apologies to any US Air people that I might''ve offended, but we had a terrible time on Sunday)

Our first day in Phoenix, he planned to hike up a mountain. Little did I know this was how he was going to propose to me! We first get to the mountain and he hands me a little note about how we first met. And as we''re going up the trail, more notes about our first date, and things about our relationship. Well of course I thought something was up, desperately hoping for a proposal, but not wanting to get my hopes up. We get to the top of the mountain and we''re just sitting around looking at the scenery etc. So I chalk it all up to just a romantic hike. Then he hands me the last note card, a red letter, and it asks me to stand up, close my eyes and hold out my hand. I opened them, and he was kneeling in front of me, holding the ring.

I didn''t cry, but I was so happy, I did shed a few tears, but laughed and smiled and it was just so unexpected. I''m figuring out how to post some pictures.

Oh yeah, since EVERYONE was in the dark including my twin sister, all my friends and my parents (except my dad), J didn''t know what size to get. Well, the ring didn''t fit. It was too small. But, since he didn''t know what to get, the B&M jeweler from his setting shopping suggested a plain solitaire setting that could easily be resized if needed. So we went to get it resized so I could wear it on the trip and now we get to go setting shopping together!

Here are some quick pictures. I need to wait for a sunny day in Chicago (yeah RIGHT!) to get some better shots. I guess I should''ve done it in Phoenix. Oh well.

Is it possible your fiance knows about PS??

There was a post in proposals a few weeks ago with the same scenario...I''m going to go see if I can find it...

Here is the original post, under the subject line "scavenger hunt". The OP was given suggestions to maybe make it a bit more private, ie: have the family meet him after the proposal had taken place.

Maybe it's not the same guy but the similarities are amazing....

ETA: this is the text from the OP posting. I can't seem to get it to highlight or show a different colour.

It will happen on Memorial Day, so we got time before this can become reality. I'd like your help.

I don't want to get too specific about places just in the off chance that she stumbles upon this site...trying to be extra careful.

But there is a beautiful mountain top that we both know of quite well and have shared a special moment early in our relationship. There are a few private areas (it's a popular hiking area) that I can manage to get to and it's particular gorgeous at sunset.

I was thinking of inviting her parents (they live in another state) and her sister, friends, and part of my family to get in on the fun a little.

I am going to make a few designed cards/clues that lead her to eventually to the mountain spot in question where I'll be waiting to propose. The first card will give it away of course, she'll know what's coming, but it will deal with me being lost and if she's willing to come find me.

Some of the clues will be simple references to our favorite movie where a clue might be in a dvd box, or just things about us, each one with a lyric from our song and a note to reflect on our past and future together. On her journey, she may have to do some metaphorical things like crossing water to find me, searching high and low, eventually climbing a mountain (don't worry, it's easy!)

Some clues, I'll use the "helper" (her friend, siblings, and eventually parents) to help pass on the next clue. There really isn't a good place to hide it a public spot, so I will need people to help and I thought it'd be special since she'd never know her family was coming. Of course, the last two clues could be her parents. I think this might be a little too emotional though, but I'm a sucker for romance obviously.

I'll give directions to each person not to follow directly behind her, but to give her some space so it feels like her journey.

This will all lead to me, she'll know exactly what's coming, but hopefully all that build up will allow her to really reflect and soak it in when it finally comes and I can be there waiting with my back turned to her, get down on one knee, and pop the question.

There is a restaurant nearby and I can have plans for us all to go out afterwards.

Worries: One of the people in on it will spill the beans and ruin the entire setup. (Should I just try to go this alone, with maybe one person I can trust to guide her)

Suggestions: I feel like this needs fine tuning and/or I might be overlooking something.

Ideas? comments?

Hm, I really doubt it. He said he talked to his friends and brother in law for diamond advice. They were both recently married. I joked that he''s starting a support group amoung his friends. But his won''t be as awesome as the LIW & PS group :) Ha ha.

LMAO!! It''s definitely not him. I''ve never been to Camelback Mtn before, so it was all new to me. But it''s REALLY funny because I responded to this post!!! I told the poster he''ll need helpers. But now that it''s happened to me, I''m actually GLAD the ring didn''t fit. My hands wear really grungy and yucky by the time we got to the top. I''''d be MORTIFIED to post the pics up on PS. As it is I don''t have a mani. (I contemplated doing a fake one-handed mani for the pictures. That''s not weird is it...?)

holeee smokes!

So strange, the minute I read your post I was positive you were the fiancee of the guy over in the proposals thread!

Congratulations. I am happy for you.

Sapphire,

You're right, the similarities are freaky. Maybe it was my guy being extra careful (throwing in false facts). I wouldn't think he would, off hand, but he's proven to be VERY surprising. Ha ha. You have a stellar memory in any case.

I'm contemplating if I should go over to that proposals thread and warn the poster about the grubby hands part. As much as I was looking forward to a proposal on the top of the mount, I kept thinking to myself, "Gosh, my hands are a mess!" Guess us women can multi-task like champs! (I.e. mind on the trail & on my hands & on a proposal...)

What a sweet proposal and a beautiful diamond!! Best of luck to you!

Great proposal story and beautiful ring! Congrats on your engagement, lliang_chi! I''m jealous you got to see a Cubs game and were proposed to in the same trip...DH and I are Cubs fans as well (we live in the near west burbs). Anyway, enjoy your engagment and good luck with planning your wedding!

What a sweet proposal! Congrats and I''m loving your ring- have fun choosing the setting!

Monarch, I''m actually a Sox fan! But we went to a Cubs game because they were playing and I preferred a spa appointment to catching a Sox game. How can a girl pass that up?

KTDid, Thanks! I think we''re going to have fun setting shopping. He actually has an opinion on this and picked something out. I wonder what he had in mind...

thats such a cute proposal! congrats!!! your asscher looks great i hope you give us more pictures...

and hey its great to see another asscher owner in chicago...and chyea the weather lately is great for AWESOME fireshot, especially around like 2pm if your around the lakefront like me lol go get out and get some fire shots!!!

have you thought the kind of setting you might like?

YAY congrats on your proposal your ring is beautiful and your story very romantic :)

Best wishes to you both :)

Emilina,

Today''s weather looks pretty yucky! Sigh!!!! Soooooooooo tired of Chicago''s winter. I''ll try to get some more shots. I just noticed last night that there''s GREAT lighting in my elevator. I''ll be that weird girl taking pictures in the elevator. Oh well. :)

CONGRATULATIONS lliang_chi!

What a wonderful proposal story! I am just drooling over that ring! I''d love for my e-ring to be an Asscher too. What is your ring size? I love the way that .95ct beauty looks on your hand! What kind of setting do you think you want?

Thanks KCCutie,

I''m a 6.25 ring size. It still feels kinda big because the ring spins around pretty freely on my finger. Does anyone know if the square bottomed rings prevent that from happening? My future-SIL (yay!!! I can say that!) swears by them.

I dunno what kind of settings I''m looking for. I never got to try on anything, and all the pictures I picked out are for rounds. I do HEART antique settings and/or engraved settings, but like I said, never tried them on.

And does anyone know how long can you coast by until you *have* to start the wedding plans? I don''t want to spoil my high right now... But my mom is going batsh!t crazy.

congrats on your engagement. pretty ring (i''m very partial to asschers; i want one for my ering).

and that was a sweet proposal too.

best wishes to you both.

i have a euro shank (square bottom) and yea it does keep my ring from spinning, lol it was my FI who designed my ring and the euro shank was one of the most important things to him...

oh hey you should also check out the borders on Lincoln or any other borders cause their lighting in their elevators are AMAZING...i would sit and ride the elevator for no reason if that didn''t look a bit stupid lol

oh my mom was like we need to get started and im still trying to not worry about things since our wedding will be in ''o9... im probably not gonna start wedding planning till sept. oct.ish...but my engagement party is well underway!

congratulations!! Love the ring!
