Well Ladies, I''m off the list!

We went skiing in Colorado and he had made reservations at this romantic restaurant on the top of the mountain but despite several requests to be in a child free zone, we ended up seated where we were literally boxed in by families. I really don''t get why a restaurant would offer a $125.00 per person fixed price menu AND then have a kids menu too, except that they must not be able to do enough business without making accomodations for kids. But anyway, I sat there the whole meal thinking, "please don''t ask me, not here, not with all these kids getting louder and louder." and then when he didn''t the whole rest of time I was like "why hasn''t he asked me yet?"...

So the next morning when the sky was blazing blue and there was about 5 feet of snow on the ground and we rode up the mountain on the chairlift, my dearest man said "as we beging our second skiing adventure together, I was wondering if you''d considering joining me on the adventure of being my wife." To which I said "of course!".

Then he said I was going to ask you last night but there were all those kids. And I said I''m glad you asked when you did.

So this weekend we are going ring shopping. I will keep y''all posted.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a sweet proposal... im glad he waited too!

Heather, we went to Beaver Creek. We are basically beginners (he just started this year I had only been twice before that) but he has fallen hook, line, and sinker (skis, poles and boots?) for the sport. (his nickname is now Mr. Black Diamond since he was brave enough to go on three Black Diamond runs which I think is kind of funny since I'm Sparkling now we both have diamond themed names
21.gif
). The nice thing about Beaver Creek is that there are alot of beginner runs at the top of the mountains so you can see the mountain ranges all around for miles and miles. Its only a few miles past Vail on the highway but its a smaller resort (only 1700 acres of trails as opposed to like 5000 in Vail). Anyway there was plenty for us to stay occupied. Another thing is, its there's escalators everywhere so you don't have to tromp around far in your boots to get to the hills, the village has free shuttles everywhere, they give out free Chocolate Chip Cookies at the end of the day, alot of the hotels have spas and are ski in-ski out. I can't recommend it enough! We are talking about having our wedding there next January.

Here's a link to our picture; not great of us but wonderful scenery.

OK the link didn't work. Here's link to the B.C. webpage that you can just paste in
http://beavercreek.snow.com/mtn.gallery.asp.

TeeBee, my avatar is a Champion Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who I bought in England as my graduation present to myself for getting my Ph.D. His nephew who I also own is siring a litter of puppies next month
31.gif
and I am hoping to buy a female from the litter. Her name will be Cushion Cut and I'm going to call her Cushie, which is perfect for a cavalier since they are the original silk pillow dogs.

As for the ring-I think I'm officially giving up the quest for an emerald cut stone or a cushion. Everything is either way up in clarity, thus sacrificing size or in the case of the emeralds, too deep, just not pretty. Now I am angling for a 1.5 ct H&A brilliant G SI1 in the Ritani endless love micropave eternity band. But who knows. There's a Kirt Kara trunk show this weekend in my town and we're going to look at some Asschers because the gal there has them in and supposedly Kirt will have more things with him than she has in the store. Ever since he learned the word Asscher, Mr Black Diamond has been joking that he's going to buy me an Asscher surrounded by two half moons! Oh my!
6.gif
Obviously its essential that I participate in the ring selection if I don't want my ring to be the butt of a joke
19.gif
! OK, that was really bad...
20.gif
I apologize in advance.

Sparkling

Hey Sparkling! The reasons that I asked is because my parents have a house out in Colorado and guess where it is.....Beaver Creek!!! There actually out there right now. Isn''t is gorgeous??? I absolutely love it out there...and you''re right- there are a lot of slopes that are kind to beginners. Where was that pre-fix dinner? Was the name of the restaurant Beanos? It''s funny, cause my sister got engaged out there too...when she and her now husband took a vacation out there about two years ago. They said it was just the perfect setting. If you end up getting married out there, I want to see pics!!!!

Oh, and I vote for the ritani endless love...I have a custom made version of it with a similar stone size, and (hope it doesn''t sound like bragging but...) you wouldn''t believe the amount of compliments that I get on it! Plus, it''s been almost exactly a month since I got it and I still can''t stop staring!

Forgot to add that your doggy is adorable and I love the idea of naming your next puppy cushie...too cute!

Hey congratulations! Great proposal. It''s funny, fiance and i just got back from Colorado a few days ago (we went to Vail). Oh and your dog is adorable, i just love spaniels of all kinds.

Sparkling!! Congratulations!!! What a romantic story too....
I''ll bet you are still floating!!

Heather,
Yes it was Beanos! And the last time we went it was soooo nice with the singer and candles and it was relatively quiet. Our mistake I think was going early but I was on east coast time and just couldn''t stay up for the 9:45 seating which was the only other one open. I guess the children like to go visit the porcupines and ride the snowcat tram up the mountain. We did see a gorgeous red fox running across the snow that night on our way up. He was huge and looked very out of place in the snow. We went to Splendido two nights later and there wasn''t a single kid to be found (I am not anti-kid at all btw, I just don''t like distractions when I''m trying to have a romantic time). The food was actually better at Splendido. If anyone goes to Beaver Creek, you have to get the Chocolate Souffle. You are so lucky-parents with a house in B.C. Have you considered moving back in with them? Might be worth it!

I''m glad you like your ring-doesn''t sound like bragging at all (Isn''t that what we do on these forums anyway?). Do you have pics? BBB had the setting but they had a 2 ct CZ in it so I don''t know how a 1 1/2 ct would look. I have size 5-1/4 ring finger. That setting just looks so engagement ringish to me and with the matching eternity bands that are so delicate it doesn''t seem like wearing tons of ring.

Elepri, did you have good snow? Ours was wonderful except a bit slushy at the very bottom on Sunday.

Lovey, I''ve followed your saga and love your ring! If I can''t talk him into the round (he gave a round to a former fiance who bailed so he''s not so round inclined) then I may have to find out the ins and outs of dealing with Leon. At first he thought it was cheating to have a halo ring but then he started seeing them in person and I showed him your ring and Leon''s webpage and he was so impressed with how pretty they were that he was all "lets call Leon." The diamond dealer in D.C. we are working with tried to talk him out of putting much $ into the setting "there''s practically no market for a setting if she changes her mind down the road but she can always trade up the center stone and get full value." My thing is I want this to be it for me forever-he can buy more diamonds but I want this ring forever. And we want me to have a wedding band too. What are you going to do wedding band-wise? That''s my major concern about a Leon ring.

Oh good, you went to Splendido! I was going to ask if you went there....the food there is definitely better! That''s a family favorite of ours. Beanos is just fun cause you get to take that ride up the mountain. And I completely understand about the kid thing....we all love kids but there''s nothing that detracts from a romantic evening like babies crying and children throwing food at each other. Did you get a chance to visit Vail? When I go out, I usually spend one or two days there, but you''re right, Beaver Creek has plenty to keep you occupied. I love the skiing at Beaver Creek also.....whenever I go, it feels like I have the mountain to myself. Vail is gorgeous too, but it can get a lot more crowded. I''m so jealous that you got to go out there...I couldn''t this year--too much work!

Here is a picture of my ring. It''s a bit different from the ritani in a few ways, mainly that the band is slightly thicker, but you get the idea. The diamond is 1.73ct (tcw ~2.2)

btw, my ring size is a 5
