So, what os the general rule for (1) an active fiancee who will have a good sized diamond on her hand, and (2) a wedding band?

I''ve seen people bond the two rings together which seems less than ideal for someone active who will want to wear the band when camping (and not the stone). I''ve seen a same mm size width wedding band complement the e-ring, and I''ve seen the infinity (very small cut) diamond wedding band.

Any thoughts from the experienced, wise?

This is the arrangement I live with, and I have no problem with it. I'm about to get a new ering, and probably a new wedding band as well, and I plan to repeat the fundamental setup: straight round separate wedding band not wrapped or attached, so that it can be worn alone when we go camping and river rafting and such.

A few other thoughts: when the band is not attached to the ering, it will naturally twist on the finger, so I think it's best in this case that the band be continuous....either plain or engraved all the way around, or an eternity band stoned all the way around. Less fiddling to worry about that way!

some people solder the e-ring with the band so that they won't twist around in 2 different directions. this seems to be more important with those bands that sit flush with the e-ring.

like many things, this is a matter of personal taste. i agree with you that personally, if you're going through the trouble of getting an actual wedding band, it shouldn't be soldered...but again that's just me. some other people might feel differently.

another suggestion might be to forgo the wedding band altogether and just get a really nice setting. this isn't that uncommon either and essentially you'll be getting the "soldered" e-ring/band effect.

If she's really active, the most sensible thing to do wear only the wedding ring during activities where the e-ring will get in the way or is liable to be damaged.
