Whenever any American citizen dared to speak up against going to war with Iraq he was branded as unpatriotic and, far worse, as someone not supporting "our troops".
Many people asked where George W.Bush supposedly came up his information that tied Iraq (one of the few secular Arab countries) with Osama bin Laden (a religious fanatic who hated everything for which Iraq stood). Not only did the vocal supporters of Bush drown out the questions, but they attempted to intimidate those who dared to *pose* such questions.
At the same time abysmal ignorance among the populace in the United States had people insisting that Iraqi women needed to be rescued from the Taliban...having confused Iraq and Afghanistan. It was 'general knowledge' that Iraq had ties to the terrorists who attacked us on September 11, 2001.
Paul O'Neill now says that the plan to attack Iraq preceded the September 11 attacks.
We can all agree Saddam Hussein was a bloody murderer...but perhaps the people of the United States should look at how gullible we were. Would we have gone to war if George W.Bush had told us that he just wanted to make a little adjustment in Iraq? I doubt it. I would like to know how much money his friends in Halliburton have made on the contracts to rebuild Iraq, too. Call me cynical, but I don't think it was the torture chambers and the mass graves of Saddam's Shiite Muslim opponents that led the US and Great Britain into this. How many innocent Iraqis have been KILLED by this war? Would as many have been killed by Saddam?
