Had to tell this story because I thought it was funny.
I went to my local B&M jeweler today to have the head on my e-ring replaced so the diamond can sit higher. The jeweler had the ring on his pinky finger as he was writing up my order ticket.
Next to me was a couple about my age looking at loose diamonds for a pendant. The jeweler wanted to show him an ideal cut H/SI1 and the guy said really loud "I want nothing lower than an E/VS1 because I don''t want the diamond to clash with her engagement ring". The jeweler tried to explain that it wouldn''t clash since it would be on her neck, etc. The guy was really trying to show off his knowledge about diamonds, rattling all about color, clarity, etc. He was adamant and said "I don''t want any of those "near colorless" diamonds as they are all yellow". The jeweler again explained that they aren''t then asked the guy if he''s actually seen any diamonds in that color range. The guy then looked at me and then asked "Would YOU buy a diamond lower than an E??" I tried not to laugh and I said "Yes, I would, and I have." I told him the ring on the other jeweler''s pinky was a J. Well this guy could not believe it. He basically accused me of lying. Even the jeweler was impressed with my J.
So the jeweler held it up to the guy and commented on what a beautiful stone it was. He almost hit the floor when I told him it was an SI1.
The guy''s wife the whole time was quiet until the jeweler showed them my ring. She said "why don''t we look at that H, dear. That way I can get a bigger diamond!". So they did and she liked the H so much that they bought it.
I usually don''t butt in on other people''s business, but hey, they guy asked!
Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny.
