I blame desk jockey for reminding me of Barry's supernova ovals that I have yet to see in person. After I saw her garnet I went to his website to check for new stones and here this was. :naughty: With Christmas coming up my funds are not plentiful, but I've been itchin' and a scratchin' for another pretty color in my jewelry box and a big, bright, and affordable topaz really seems to hit the spot. :appl:

Good for you, Kelli! I looked at that topaz this morning on Barry's site & was tempted but I'm saving for The Tsavorite. Glad you got it -- beautiful color!

Very pretty!! I love it. I love Barry's cutting above all (at least most) other cutters.

Glad you ladies are able to get a BB stone for your special occasions.

Excellent call. Judging from my experience, I think you'll like the color! :naughty:

Ooo, I like both stones for their colours!

Thanks for sharing!

DK :))

Lovely, looking forward to seeing what you do with this stone :)

Gorgeous!

I can't recall if you have any of Barry's stones yet. Either way, I doubt this will disappoint. His supernovas are awesome - in fact, so are all of his stones! The color looks terrific too. Oh boy!

Oh wow Freke! I hope mine glows like that!!!

Thanks everyone. This will be my first Barry stone and I'm super excited about it. I know topaz is treated but I don't know exactly how. Just heated? Irradiated? It's permanent, right? The description of the stone didn't say, so I assumed it was standard heat and will be permanent but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks:)

Irradiated. And yes, it's permanent. No special care needed. Stunning color, as I can attest to. I'm so excited for you!

Irradiated, should be permanent. I would so ask Barry if I were you - that's the best part of buying from him! He is so knowledgeable, so generous with his time in responding and so funny. I'm sure he'll share some arcane facts or hysterically funny story with you if you shoot him an email and ask him. :)) Uh, yeah, sign me up as another PSer with a crush on BB - even more so now that I've seen his rings he shared with FrekeChild!

Hah, cross post!

Cool, thanks:) Glad to be buying from such a cool guy. I saw those rings too. Awesome!

Almost all blue topaz have been irradiated. I've seen untreated blue topaz but those tend to be very pale. The treatment is stable and permanent.

Hi,

What a beautiful color. Frekes ring is lovely as well. While i'm at it, Freke you have the nicest pink ring. I'm in love with it, but I don't remember what kind of stone it was.

I very much like Topaz. Once when people were showing what pariba tourmaline looked like, I said to myself, i have a stone that color. It was a topaz. It matceh exactly. Therefore I like Topaz a lot.

Sorry for the threadjack Kelli, we'll make it quick. Smit - do you remember the details of the setting? I have far too many pink rings it would seem!

I agree on the electricity of blue topaz - it's quite paraibalike!

I don't mind at all, in fact I think you should post pics of all your pink sparklies so we can figure out which she likes the best! (I love your collection!)

Who is "Barry" , and does he have a website???

Awww!!! Thanks! It's been a while since I've done a collection shoot, but when I get my newest goodie back from the jeweler, I'll post at least one collection shot.

So! How are you going to set this baby?

It's here! It was actually here yesterday (holy fast shipping), but I didn't have time to post. It really is just ELECTRIC blue, and the cut is just fantastic! As for how to set it… I'm pretty boring in that sense I guess. I wanted to keep it nice and cheap since it was an inexpensive stone, so I ordered the Stuller bezel setting in sterling. Something about simple settings really just appeals to me anyway. I'll post a pic with a few of the stone.

Here she is.

Another, and a screen shot I took of the setting.

The one thing is- and I knew this going in- that since it's an irradiated stone, the color just kind of screams. It looks the same in all kinds of lighting and almost dulls down my untreated gems in comparison. Not that I love them any less for it; if anything I love them more because there's no "man-made" factor…

Still, I'm glad I bought this this. I've only ever had really windowed junk as far as topaz goes, and this one is just so pretty!

YAY! It looks awesome!!!!! And that was super fast!

Nice

Wow, that is a honker! I love the color. Woot!

Beautiful, certainly a Windex blue!
