Hi all,

I have long wanted an opal. It is my birthstone and the changes with movement have always intrigued me. I have been looking off and on and finally found one that I hope will be a good starter stone. I have not made a purchase prior because I hear Bron in the back of my head," If it speaks to you and you don't buy it you will spend forever looking for the it again". This one spoke to me. It wasn't crazy expensive. It is small but if it looks halfway like it does in the video, I am looking forward to making a tiny pendant. The patterning reminds me of a Monet. Here is the linkhttps://www.opalauctions.com/auctions/050ct-solid-lightning-ridge-black-opal-aa207-766407 . I would appreciate any thoughts you might have or suggestions for what I should look for when it arrives. I can return it if it is a dud and my novice eyes didn't pick that up. Thanks!

I am so not an expert, but I had to say I love it and it does look very Monet like.

Thanks for weighing in Demon!

Unofficial opal expert here :P2
Lovely opal, lots of colour, no dead spots, love it.
Be warned though, it’s a very slippery slope into “opal addictions”

Hi Bron, thanks for stopping by! I really appreciate and value your input. We may be visiting Australia next year and I look forward to possibly seeing specimens in person. This stone grabbed my eye right away. I can’t wait to see it in person!

It looks lovely, great choice! Be sure to show us when it arrives. :wavey:

I will but my photo skills leave much to be desired unfortunately...

GliderPoss is there a thread with details about your avatar? It is lovely!

WOW! Opals are quite mind-blowing. If only a doublet fits the budget there is nothing wrong with it, as long as you know what it is. I find a doublet far less unnatural than a beryllium treatment or such.

Hi Anne, there are some beautiful doublets and the prices are nice. The stone I linked is tiny but a solid opal (I hope!).

If it speaks to you, go for it! It's beautiful. Do you have any designs in mind for your pendant?

Thanks Scouty! There is a stock Stuller setting in yellow gold that I hope will work.
