Opal shipping. DHL to usps?

I recently ordered an opal from Australia and it still hasn’t arrived. DHL stopped updating on nov 30 and the vendor called and was given a usps tracking number and told that there were delays due to weather and then the passing of George Bush.

Is it typical for DHS to hand off to USPS like this for international shipping?

Yes, I’ve had international parcels handed off to USPS for delivery. Opals from Australia, specifically

Yes this is normal, a lot of international post services in Australia use a local post service at the destination instead of setting up their courier services in every country. I'm not sure if DHL are located near you but my guess is they probably aren't and handing over to USPS was going to be most efficient.

FedEx is available in Australia and I am pretty sure they would deliver to your door but it is prohibitively expensive.
