Hello guys,

I am a 27 years old soon to be lawyer living in Paris and would like to propose to my gf before the end of the year. After reading extensively about the 4cs, important of the cut, ideal proportions etc..(I am a total layman) I came up with this stone https://www.bluenile.com/uk/build-your-own-ring/diamond-details/LD17038198?offerId=15717

Do you think it's a good one ?

My budget is about 5.000-5.500 euros for the stone ( around 6.000 euros including the setting) VAT included. As I am living in France i would rather shop from Bluenile since it is a european website and i won't have to bother with VAT and the french tax system in general. Unfortunately Bluenile doesn't seems to provide Idealscope images unless asked ( and it takes 48h). I searched for a stone with the following criterias : Color : Colorless or near colorless ( between I and D), Clarity : Eye-clean between VS2 and FL, Cut : Ideal (or Astor Ideal on Bluenile), Carat between 0.9 and 1.25. Finally the proportions would have to be about 61 to 62.5% depth and 54 to 57% for the table with a girdle that is not too thick and not too much fluorescence.

Being a little overwhelmed, I am asking for your help ! Thanks in advance !

I did a search expanding several of the variables reasonably (carat down to 0.83, clarity to SI1, cut down to "ideal") and still couldn't find anything that looked like it had the same value for quality as the one you selected. There are plenty with "better" single variables, but none that have an overall better package than what you selected.

Hopefully you put it on hold. It's got a tall crown (the part above the girdle) with complementary proportions down below, so it should have some nice fiery dispersion. It also has fat arrows which is a look I really enjoy. The symmetry all in all looks really decent, too. It's not going to be microscopically perfect, but I don't think that makes it in any way inadequate.

TLDR, seems a solid choice given vendor preference, budget, and wishlist.

For the price, I think you can do better on color if you relax the clarity up to VS2 while maintaining the weight to around 0.9 carat.

Here are some examples (no matter what diamonds grab your attention, also ask for advanced images like you did with the 0.9 I VVS2).

Respectfully, I think those all show more pavillion asymmetry than the original choice. They are all whiter, though. So it's probably a question of priority. You know I don't mind a "colorful" stone :twirl:

That's entirely fair!
