Hi everyone,

I recently joined the pricescope community and the HCA tool has been so helpful. I'm looking for a 1 carat diamond for an engagement ring. Using the diamond search, I found this diamond which has everything going for it but after reading that Fluorescence can degrade the look of diamond in sunlight (making it appear blue) and seeing that the diamond I picked has strong blue fluorescence, I'm having second thoughts.

It's a diamond from James Allen so unfortunately I don't have the GIA number. But I do have the GIA report (attached). My girlfriend loves sparkling diamonds and I want to make sure this one would sparkle nicely and won't be a bad diamond due to the strong fluorescence. Can someone please help me out? Thanks.

Would you be OK with a 0.994ct F VS2 AGS000 with proven light performance via advanced images that's completely eye clean and has an immeasurable difference in outer diameter spread from a highly recommend seller that has one of the best upgrade programs in the world?

Thanks for suggestion but it seems to have too many clouds/spots on it. And, I'm only looking at anything at least a VVS2.

No worries...just seeing if I could help maximize value for your dollar. Most diamonds in the sub-2ct range are fine up to VS2 and even most SI1, in regards to being eye-clean. If you want it mind-clean by increasing clarity to VVS or better, then I understand, as that can be more important than just a clean appearance to the unaided eye.

The one you posted about is right on the boundaries for recommend proportions, so you're good to go!

If you are looking specifically for a diamond that is going to maximize sparkle I highly suggest you look at super ideals. Whiteflash, Brian Gavin Diamonds, Wolf/CBI. Not saying that the JA diamond you selected won’t sparkle but might be worth a look.

If you have some time read through this thread. It has some good info on super ideals. Post #3

We are all rooting for your success on behalf of your girlfriend. :)

SB fluorescence does not always make a diamond cloudy. The odds of cloudiness that affects sparkle are even lower when you are not talking step cut. SBF will definitely make the diamond look slightly blue in the sun. However well cut diamonds actually go a little dark in the sun so it’s not like any ideal diamond performs great in the sun anyway. And many people like the look of SB fluorescence. If it’s gotta be 1 carat and it’s gotta be VVS then SBF will save you some moolah.

JA has a great return policy — I’ve used it — so maybe try the one you’ve found. I don’t disagree with the recommendation to get a super ideal cut from any of the various vendors. But you will either pay the price or else compromise. If you don’t compromise on VVS then that tends to mean compromising on color and while there are very few people who are not thrilled with super ideal diamonds, the people that are not thrilled are the ones who sacrificed color.
