A few years ago, I had my solitaire put into a hexagon halo - I chose the shape because I wanted something unique. Once I received it, I never enjoyed it. I can’t put my finger on why. Is it the shape itself? Is the symmetry off? Should the pave been less delicate? Please help me figure out why I don’t like this and what would be a good direction to fix it. I know a lot of PSers like the Emilya halo, but VC will only do it with his own stones (as per the website). Thank you!IMG_5751.jpeg

Personally, I feel like the stone is weirdly too high in the setting (like rhe jeweler took a non stock sized stone and tried to shove it into a stock sized setting. So it doesn't quite look like the halo actually surrounds the stone.

Yes! I see what you’re saying. Do you think there is anything I can do to work with this halo, or should I just do a new one completely?

Its the prongs that dont work for me* (not sure if that will help you love it more or not). Make them nice petite claw prongs and
it will look nicer. I do agree with @lovedogs ...it seems to be sitting up too high. If you can post a side view maybe we can tell
if it can be set lower (I have my doubts though).

I think a round or cushion shaped halo would work better. Your current setting has several angles and I don’t think they compliment your diamond as well as a different shape. Just my .02!

Please help me figure out why I don’t like this

Agree with previous requests for side and profile shots, plus a full hand shot.
Plus a picture(s) of your inspiration photos you had for creating this ring? Maybe that too, might help us in helping you figure out why you don’t like tge end result.

But sometimes it just ‘is’ that we like styles in pictures or on others peoples hands. Not ours. And reverse is true, too!

Here are other angles of the ring. What do you think?IMG_5755.jpeg

Yes I tend to agree. I should have done a cushion halo…

I just posted more shots - I’ll take a hand shot as well and attach it!

I don’t have the exact inspo photos anymore but I found some that look like what I had sent. Yes maybe it just wasn’t a good shape for my hand…

Here’s a hand shot and an inspo image. Pardon the old manicure

I’m not sure what’s going on with the aesthetics of how it looks on. Perhaps those angles are not for you.
I think the diamond is set very snuggly on side view.
But there does seem to be some daylight between this prong and the stone. I would want that addressed (could be the pic or my eyes).

Yes I see that gap and others now that I’m looking at the ring. I assume this means that it was not set well and the diamond could fall out?

Seeing the side angles it looks like I was wrong and the stone is set as low as possible. The prongs don't look great to me (bulky and not correctly positioned).

Your ring is different from the inspo pic. Hard for me to describe in writing but there is a straight line of metal on the outside of the halo in the inspo pic, more like channel set. Also, the orientation of the hexagon is different on your ring. Maybe it's these differences that are bothering you.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. There seems to be many things that aren’t working with this ring. The stone itself is beautiful and I want to help it to shine in the halo. I would appreciate your suggestions on what style of halo would work. I don’t necessarily want a delicate one anymore, so I’m open to different shapes and styles. Also what halo shape do you think would suit my hand the best?

I see what you’re saying, thanks

The halo melee proportions to center stone from your inspo pic to your ring
Isn’t that far off. IMO. That was my first thought of what it might be, but I don’t think that’s it.
I think it’s the hexagon vs octagon presence in what it’s doing to the ‘look’
Plus the two different types of pave between the two used.

If we are strictly talking about what seems different in ‘the overall look and feel’.

Your inspo is 8-sided while your ring halo is only 6-sided. I have an 8-sided bezel type ring and I find it to be pleasing. For some
reason 6 sides dont work as well to me.

Edit...my ring is very different from your ring but I'll post anyway

@tyty333, you're right, I didn't count the sides lol...that's the difference I'm seeing.

I think the prongs need to be made more delicate. As for the halo, it seems to show more metal than the inspo because of the way the stones are set.

Since you ended up with 6 sides instead of 8, do you think you would like it better if it was an octogon like your inspo?

I do like 8 better now that I see it. I guess I should have suggested that when I did this 5 years ago. I would guess it’s been way too long to ask the jeweler to fix it - quite frankly, given the other things that are not up to par with the design and execution, I wouldn’t reach out to him anyway.

Suggestions on what to do with this halo or to start with a new one (and any designs you suggest!)

Inspo: Octagon, baby claw prongs, halo has more pronounced milgrain semi-bezel sides, pave on shank clearly visible from top view.

Yours: Hexagon, round prongs, halo has no faux bezel to emphasize the clean lines of the polygon, can barely see the pave on the shank.

ETA: The design fix that might make the most impact would be a faux bezel so that there are clear, straight lines marking the sides.

This is really helpful - so I really didn’t get what I wanted :( and now I have to spend a lot of money to fix it/redo it. What a bummer.

The inspo pic is an octagon not hexagon

Eta - oops I see lots of you already pointed that out.

Not an expert by any means, just wanted to say the tab prongs are too chunky for the setting.

Personal preferences and all that as I would bezel everything if I can!

Also, the orientation of the hexagon does not appeal - I would prefer turning it by 30 deg so that it sits longer on the finger than it is wide, if you know what I mean.

DK :))

Did the original jeweler create a CAD for you? Unfortunately, 5 years is too long for a re-do at the jeweler's expense.

I think you should start over...go somewhere that does CADs (DK did my ring). Ask Pricescopers if the CADS match your inspo
ring and they'll let you know the difference.

You should love your ring! I'm sorry your original vision did not come through. I hate wasting money but 5 years is a good run and
its time to make it right if budget allows (my opinion).

100%! Maybe you just start over and decide what you want even if it is completely different.

Yes now that you say it - I think the orientation is one of the major things that has bothered me!
