Hello all. First off I hope this is the right forum category, I think it fits best here.

I wrote a few months back because my wife-to-be (hopefully) doesn''t really like rings, and didn''t want a diamond. I was trying to find another solution and got a lot of great suggestions.

Well, she found a band that she really likes. Two things:

1) I''m pretty sure it''s a mans ring. (which we don''t care about, but it''s relevenat to the size)
2) Because of #1, I''m afraid it might be too wide and/orthick.

I have attached a picture below. It''s platinum. 6mm wide and 1.75mm thick. She wears a size 7. She is 5'' 9", pretty thin build.

Unfortunatley, I want it to be somewhat of a secret, so I don''t want to go around and have her try similar size rings on.

Is 6mm wide too thick for a women wide size 7 fingers? She had tried on a 7mm wide ring a while back and liked it, said she didn''t think it was too big, but I know there are a lot of people here who know a lot about rings, so I''d like a second opinion.

Thanks!

Yanks, you''re getting away lightly if you''re not having to buy a diamond ring... are you sure you don''t want to introduce her to Pricescope?

The ring you''ve posted is gorgeous. I think it''s perfect for a lady, even though it''s listed as a man''s ring. If your wife-to-be has tried on a 7mm wide band and liked it, then I''ve no doubt she''ll be happy with a 6mm band. I think it''s beautiful.

If you want to be safe, why not speak to the jeweler and ask if you can purchase on condition that if she doesn''t like it then you can exchange it for something she prefers. That way you can''t lose.

My person opinion is... go for it - it''s stunning.

I don''t even let her use the computer once I found out about Pricescope ;)

Thank you very much for the opinion. Truth is, I''m in love with it too but I don''t want that to sway my decision. The jeweler does have a condition similar to what you stated, but my fear is more personal than monetary, i just want her to be happy with it right off the bat. :)

After I wrote the first post I was reading some other posts around here, and noticed that in many instances, once the engagement and wedding rings are combined, they wind up being 6mm wide or larger. Being that we decided that there would be one ring, I think i''m safe!

Thanks again, you made me feel much better. (As i sit here and wait for other posts to tell me it''s too wide ;) )

Yanks- I really like that ring you posted. I have small hands (3.5-3.75), and when I''ve tried on my husband''s 5mm wedding ring, it actually looks pretty good. I would imagine then that a 6mm band would look fine. I do wear an engagement ring, but have always thought if I wore just one ring, it would be a wide one.

Very pretty ring. Whether a ring width is comfortable will probably depend more on her personal preference. I don''t think 6 mm is too wide at all, but I like super-wide rings. I have a really wide (12 mm) pave band that I wear on my size 5.5 to 6 finger, and I find it very comfortable. I do have long fingers though, so I can still close my hand without a problem. The 6 mm will have a nice, substantial look, and will probably be fine.

When my husband and I picked out our wedding rings (20 years ago), we wanted matching rings. The man''s coordinating ring to mine was 6 mm and the woman''s was 8 mm. We decided we like the 8 mm and ordered 2 women''s rings in our sizes.

I think it''s absolutely beautiful.

You should go ahead and order it! If you both think it looks beautiful (and I totally agree), you should get it. My ering is 5mm and my wedding band is 4mm (size 6.5), and I don''t think the 9mm total width looks too thick. I''m sure 6mm will be absolutely gorgeous on her hand.
Be sure to post hand pics after you''ve proposed!

I love it!!!!

I think it is lovely, go for it!

Yanks, that band is really pretty. I personally love wider bands, and my mom has always worn a plain gold band with no diamonds that is probably 12+ mm wide--it''s gorgeous on her hand.

When my husband and I were looking for bands, I really wanted a very antique looking, intricate band with diamonds (see picture) but I could never find anything I really, really liked. I found the one in the picture online at dimend scaasi, they have a few more styles with diamonds if you think your gal would like those styles and you want to get her something with diamonds in it.

It''s beautiful and I say GO FOR IT! Lots of women (even very petite ones) love (and look GREAT in) chunkier style rings. Beleive me, I have seen smaller women wearing wider rings and it looks good!

Yanks:

That is a great looking band and definitely not too wide if she liked something even wider on her finger.

Would you consider getting a matching band?

Congratulations to you both!

Thank you all for your terrific support and help!

I''m even more excited now than I was yesterday. If she doesn''t like it, i''ll make it a pinky ring for myself ;)

Thanks again,

I''ll be sure to post some pics in the next month or so. (assuming she says yes) :)

Glad you are happy. She will adore it, it''s gorgeous!!! Good luck with the proposal and come back with lots of hand pics, we live for them!!!
