Hello,

I would like your opinion on this Tiffany diamond, especially whether it is a 60/60 diamond:

HCA score: 1.9
Carat: 0.40
3 x Excellent
Color: F
Clarity: VVS2
Fluorescence: none
Total Depth: 61.6%
Table: 59%
Crown Height: 14.6%
Crown Angle: 34.8
Star Length: 58%
Pavilion Depth: 43.2%
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Lower Half Length: 76%
Girdle: medium to slt thick
Girdle finish: faceted
Culet: none

The table size is probably a bit too big I suppose?

thanks

I do not consider this a 60/60 stone. Have you seen this stone in person? Do you have any up close photos of it?

Sabrina; You have to read some of the diamond selection tutorials. The table on the diamond you posted is 59% which is SMALLER than 60%, not larger. The depth is 61.9% which is deeper than 60%. It isn't really a 60/60 cut, but might look much like one. Many 60/60 diamonds would not score GIA3EX, but the one you posted does make that level of quality. Overall, is is not a super stone with a 1.9HCA, but probably is very good looking. A diamond of 0.40ct is not going to demand every detail be perfect to look just fine. When you get into 1 carat and up, the many fine details of cut begin to show up as more crucial to the overall look and quality.

I am trying to be a pragmatist. There are many here who are far more careful and selective with diamond choices. We each have our own level of what is best or good enough.

Like the others, I don't consider this a 60/60 stone as the table is a little smaller and the depth is 61.6. But yes, if shopping for myself I would prefer a smaller table.

Of course, I also know that Tiffany demands a premium $ investment for the name alone and personally I would rather put those dollars into a super ideal stone hearts & arrow (H&A) stone with a better trade up program.

The branding and price premiums aside, one of the things I also dislike about Tiffany is that they utilize internal grading. I'm not implying they are cheating, but I much prefer an unbiased 3rd party provide grading of a stone when that grading indeed establishes the monetary value that I must pay to purchase the stone in question.

Lastly, I might add that when looking at smaller stones that VVS2 clarity is complete overkill and possibly F color is too (unless you are very color sensitive). With color I understand better because some people can see that difference, but SI1 clarity on a 0.40 will likely be eye clean for the majority of people w/o the use of a scope. Therefore, bumping clarity to such a high level is not really detectable or appreciable with the naked eye. That said, I also realize it can be a minimal price increase to jump from SI1 to VVS2 in that size range as well. So while it may not be "needed" it doesn't always change the big picture much either.

Are you open to considering other brands besides Tiffany? I'm guessing your 0.40 F-VVS2 is priced about $1,500 to $2,000 at Tiffany's. For similar money, here are a few options from one of the H&A vendors, WF.

WF ACA 0.414 D-VVS2 @ $1,418 wire

WF ACA 0.501 F-VS1 @ $2,242 wire

WF ACA 0.602 G-SI1 @ $2,227 wire
