My friend is looking at getting engaged and has picked this diamond as a potential.

1.17 Carat round diamond

The angles are not complementary, and there is significant leakage under the table.

No problem. However, if your friend is going to spend $5,000.00 on a diamond they might as well get a sparkly, bright beautiful one. A well cut diamond will be brighter and look bigger than a poorly cut one. The one you linked above will appear darker in the center due to it having a very steep crown paired with a deep pavillion.

Yes I think James Allen was his preferred retailer.
It was around $6000 for budget , it will be a gold setting so maybe a G or an H at worst ? Size around a carat.

You could have your friend request the certificates if they like any of them and post them here so we can have a look at the stats and make further comments. I would qualify these as very good, not perfect. They all scored an excellent HCA score.

Just a note about words: though H is warmer in color and less expensive than G, it’s not universally accepted as “worse”. I, for example, do not like colorless diamonds, and I wouldn’t even if they were cheaper than warm ones.

Thank you and I didn’t actually. We had a local jeweller here in Edinburgh , Scotland do the design and setting. Truly grateful for the advice we received here.

No doubt we have other members in Scotland who would appreciate seeing a sample of your jewelers work and hearing about your experience working with them. They both look good to me. I prefer the H 1.07 personally. The G 1.0 has an inclusion under the table that I'm afraid might be visible at certain angles.

I took a picture of them side by side. They were clearly filmed under different lighting conditions which makes it hard to compare. In fact I've written my response several times because I keep changing my mind, lol. One is graded by GIA and one by IGI. The IGI could be a little soft in color, which means it might have been graded as an I by GIA. For that reason, and for the fact that it does appear brighter in the side by side video comparison I would go with the one you found. Then again...the 1.07 has a larger table reflection which I tend not to prefer and it has Strong Blue Fluorescence as opposed to Slight. Sorry I can not be more definitive. You and your friend will have to pick a favorite. Hopefully someone else can weigh in @DejaWiz or @lovedogs?

Your friend would also get the advantage of the WF upgrade policy, which is superior to JA. These ES stone can go quickly, so he'd be best to to put it on hold if he is interested.
