Opinions on OEC from Ivy and Rose?

I would be grateful for opinions on this diamond and setting. I understand it may be a little warm at the L color (but would this appear white (ish) in the rose gold setting?) and there appears to be a noticeable cutlet, which from what I have read is more an issue of personal preference. It is listed at SI1, which they say is 100% eye-clean. However, it seems to be a lower price for the carat weight than I would expect. Any concerns that you all see with this ring? I have read the other reviews and discussions of Ivy and Rose here, and overall they seem really positive. The few criticisms I have seen of this vendor have been lighter than average settings and smaller prongs.

Thanks so much for your advice; I have one OEC ring from my grandmother but am otherwise a newbie at this.

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I am interested in a semi mount setting they have listed. I also would like to know if is a good vendor/product!

I’ve bought from them before and have been happy with the items and customer service. They have a good return policy. I think it looks really pretty! Their pricing is generally good IMO. I’ve been thinking about having one of their smaller loose OECs set in one of their deco halos as a project this year.

Here’s my sapphire ring from them:

It looks very pretty! I’d ask for video moving slowly so you can appreciate the facets and check that they have a pleasing on/off pattern and even light play across the table.

They generally get great reviews here but I'm hesitating to take the plunge just because it's a big purchase! They do have a lot of gorgeous semi-mounts. I will update if I do purchase something:)

Thanks so much! That is a good idea. I am going to call them on Monday so I'll ask about that.

That's so pretty and unique! I love the emerald cut. Thanks for the feedback. I agree, their return policy looks good so it might be worth being able to see the ring in person. I have noticed that a lot of the OECs tend to have more color to them (like K-M) and that is something I normally wouldn't choose in a modern cut, so I am just not sure how it would look.

Yes, keep us updated! If you have a good experience I will get the diamond for the semimount from them as well.

I think that the warmer colors look good in an antique cut- I agree you could ask for video or consider ordering to eval in person.

Yes, I agree, the warmer colors have their own unique look. Will definitely ask them about a video.

Maya, here is a thread with some pieces from I&R, including a ring (setting + stone) that I have from there. (Please feel free to disregard if you've already gone through this.)

I have no compliant about the setting, but I actually went there and picked it out myself so I knew exactly what I was getting. Also no issue with the prongs; it is a small stone and the prongs are fine. To be fair it's not a heavy setting like The Brick (my over-the-top heavy platinum three stone filigree'd-to-the-hilt monster), but given the totality of the piece I was totally OK with that.

I have also just bought an 8-1/2 ct unheated sapphire from there and I'm working on setting design right now. That will have to be a custom setting, not a stock one unfortunately

Ilya and his people are lovely and accommodating and I think if you ask for more info he'll be happy to supply it. If it's any comfort, I find his stuff to be much nicer in person than how it's appared on the site!

I happen to love this particular ring! I've had it bookmarked for inspo. for awhile. I prefer antique stones with quite a bit of warmth to them- it enhances the beauty for me.
I love the mounting and I'm actually deciding between this exact and another that's similar from their site to set one of my CS stones in.
It's a beauty.

Thank you! I did read that thread… I obsessively went through this website to look for reviews and I’m glad to hear about your good experience as well! Yeah, I’m not sure exactly what people meant by lighter settings. I’m not interested in a heavy setting in general, just as long as it holds up to normal use. This one certainly looks substantial enough to me and I also have rings that are thinner than that and I’ve never had an issue with them. Thanks for your feedback; definitely reassuring!

Thanks, it is striking! Haha, I guess I better hurry up and make up my mind! What does “CS” stand for?

It’s a beautiful ring! I’ve purchased a couple of items from them and there isn’t as much gold in the settings so they’re lighter. One I wore infrequently and have since sold and one I listed for sale as soon as I got it (lovely but not for me and I had it sized) so I can’t speak to longevity. They are lovely, though, just lighter.

i think the ring you picked is a winner! Some warmth in an OEC is desirable to me.

Beautiful stone, I think I would personally call it a late/round old mine. It has a strong marquis cross pattern in the center. I think it should be turned in its setting to center the cross north/south.

I’ve enjoyed working with Ilya. He’s not always the first person I think of, but I have some very nice pieces from him.

Thanks! Do you mean the settings are hollow or that the settings are just smaller/thinner?

Really interesting point, thank you. I will look for this when I get a video and ask them about it. Since this is their setting, could also get a ring made with this setting and a different stone...

that is very pretty. I hope it works for you!!

Would love another recommendation for future reference; who would be top of your list?

I’ve worked with them, been to their store...I wouldn’t worry about them being reputable or not. You can also easily return.

many of their settings are very reasonably priced, but yes very lightweight. I do not think their bench makes all settings in-house. I have had a ring made by them, the bench work was decent and they nailed the design. Turnaround was fast. The setting I had made custom was not lightweight like many of their stock settings.

It is a pretty stone, and setting…I totally get its nerve wracking buying online. Definitely get a video if you are second guessing it! They have really intense lighting in their store that makes even the poorest cut diamond sparkle from my experience, ( many jewelry stores do this) so maybe ask for a video with natural lighting

Well, not everyone sets outside stones, etc.

David at Diamonds by Lauren makes excellent settings for his stones.

Wink at high performance diamonds

David Klass in Los Angeles

Caysie van Bebber, CVB inspired design

I’m sure I’m forgetting people...

Great point about natural light. Thank you!
