FI and decided that our best choice is probably to partially DIY our invites by having the text/graphics printed somewhere and mount that card onto cardstock for a layered look ourselves (be it pocketfold or panel card). In hunting for ideas, I stumbled across this company that will customize their invitations styles as part of the standard invitation price - that can include layout changes, colors, etc. So, I found a design I like, and I think I can have them change the aspect ratio of it a bit and scale it down on the card so I can cut the card down to fit my overall design. Their invite is printed on 5x7 paper, and I want to trim it down to 4.3"x6.3" to fit on my panel card. Anyway, I played around with the pic of their design as best I could, printed it out in color (on normal printer paper, mind you), and glued together my cardstock as I would plan to do w/ the actual invitations. What do you guys think??

The invitation is from here: http://www.basicinvite.com/product-p/rectangle_17.htm. Like I said, you can customize all the colors, text, etc as much as you want for free.

ETA: Some of my editing required copying and pasting the image on top of itself to change its aspect ratio slightly - as a result, the example groom became BryBryson with the overlap. All the text, and probably some of its layout, would have to be changed for us.

The invitation looks very pretty! I like the color combo, too. Nice find!!!

I like that a lot! Great colors! And the layered look really adds to the richness of the invitation.

So pretty!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really love the colors you chose!!!!!!!!!!

I love it! The colors are very rich and beautiful and the layered cardstock is a really nice touch. I''d say it''s a keeper! Well done!

The floral pattern is beautiful, and I really like how it flows over the lines for the border instead of being contained by the border. Makes it more interesting! Great job!!

Everyone is doing such an awesome job with their invites. I know I''m going to be partially DIYing and I''m kind of dreading it!! But the result is so pretty and it must be so gratifying to know you did it yourself!!

I love it! The flowers really add to the personality of it. The colors are great! And I love how you mixed the fonts with your names being all scripty and the other info seems easy to read! So that''s a plus!

very pretty! I love the colours

Ladyciel, it''s perfect! The layout is excellent, well-balanced, eye-catching... You guys did a great job. I love it!

I can't stop looking at this invite! I think it is beautiful! You said you copied it and played with the colors... What program did you use? Will you send me the file? I really want to do the same and print it out on my own and see if I can change the colors to go with my wedding and see what it would look like before I customize it at that site. Thanks!

Here''s a scaled down version of the file I got off of their website (the original is too big to post). I''ve found that the tricks some sites use to try and copy protect their images are usually broken by using Firefox (instead of IE). That''s how I was able to save and edit the file. Even the original isn''t very high resolution, though, so it isn''t like you could use it to print the invites on your own. I changed the colors in Photoshop, I believe, but you could probably do it in MS Paint just fine w/ the paintbucket tool. What are your colors?

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone!! I knew that *I* liked it, and that FI liked it, but I feel much more confident now that our guests will like it. It makes me really happy to hear that you guys love the colors, because that's the part that was definitely all us. We started out knowing we wanted blue, but couldn't find any examples using it in a color scheme that weren't too beachy, trendy, formal, etc. We wanted impact, but without bright colors since it's a mid-September (almost fall) wedding. I'm really excited now and I finally feel like this will all come together well (and that I'm not crazy)! The BM dresses will be blue (somewhere between cobalt and midnight blue, most likely) with the plum-burgundy color picked up in the flowers. The ballroom for the reception has pink wallpaper with ivory wainscoting and pink carpet with accents matching our plum-burgundy shade, so I think it should pull together nicely.

ETA: Speaking of the plum-burgundy color, anyone have a good name for it other than plum-burgundy?

Eeeeeek! So, I just have to share, and my apologies up front for the cliff-hanger, but I found a bunch of stock art from the original artist who did the flowers used on the invite (turns out the invitation company has sourced at least several things from istockphoto), and I now have fabulous new ideas to expand on our invitations. I won''t share details yet, because I doubt I can describe what I want to do well enough to really make a difference, but as soon as I have a (digital) mock-up I''ll post it!

We appreciate all of your compliments on our wedding invitations!

To answer a question posted earlier, you have the ability to preview your design with your color and layout changes before you order with us. This is done by ordering a complimentary design. You also are able to preview your design when you place a full order with us, making adjustments to the design with your designer before your credit card is ever charged or your order is ever printed. So there is no need to attempt to break the copyright protection system we have in place.

As far as scaling the design to work with layers as pictured, there is no charge for us to do this for you. We can scale the designs to any size and print and cut them to your specifications, for no additional fee.

To those who do not intend to order this designs via our website, you are in direct copyright violation which is easily prosecutable. Because of our design flexibilty, there is no reason to steal any designs from our site. We strive hard to offer a good service, at a fair price. At the end of the day remember, stealing designs is no different than stealing anything else.
