Optimizing a setting for brightness and comfort with large cutlets

As of Friday, I am the happy owner of a beautiful 2.6 carat peruzzi diamond that I'll be using for my engagement ring. It has a large cutlet that creates a kozibe effect throughout the stone. Here is a photo in very poor lighting (also sitting in a plastic bezel) that illustrates the effect well:

My plan was to set the stone as low as possible with a large, crown setting for comfort/lifestyle reasons. This was the leading inspiration picture I showed by jeweller:

Now that I'm looking at the photos I took at the showroom, I'm concerned that setting it close to my skin will darken the stone unnecessarily since it will refract my skin tone throughout the kozibe. In the above photo, you can see the "gold" plastic" refracting NSEW.

I recall reading on PS that folks have set a brilliant-cut diamond right under the cutlet to brighten it up. If I take the setting in a different direction, that may help. Do you have any other ideas of what I can do? Or, am I overly concerned about something that isn't really a big deal?

Lovely stone, congratulations! I wonder if setting the stone in a WG/Plat “cup” of some kinds (ideally one with side openings so you can clean the stone) will help with not letting your skin colour refract through the stone?

It appears the stone may be excessively deep - a nailhead- with close to 45 degree pavilion angles - in that case have the culet polished off and you will gain additional sparkle and no problem-O.
some more photos including face on with a black camera and good side profiles?

Hi Garry @Garry H (Cut Nut) - the stone is indeed very deep. Certainly not an optimally cut diamond, but impressive for a 300-year old stone! Given that it's a genuine antique, I don't want modify it. My goal is to find a setting that helps it be its best self!

@AllAboardTheBlingTrain thanks for the cup suggestion - I'll look into it.

Sorry I can't be of help, but if anyone could help it would be; Calling @diagem

Wow -- almost an old single-cut (I know nothing about this stuff). You can almost see the "octahedron" under there in the video.

You may even need a platinum cup for it.

Take it out of the plastic. How dependent is the beauty (or the properties you value) on light entry through the pavilion (as opposed to down through the crown)? Usually not at all but all bets are off with this one...

Why would you think this stone is 300 years old?
Given the polish is Very good and the symmetry is good I would be very suprised if that were so?

I’m just going by what the dealer suggested. Of course, one never truly knows.

Ultimately, I’m just looking for advice on how to set it.

That does not look 300 years old to me but IANAE…

Have you tried lining your printed setting in foil?

I think your stone is beautiful. If I were you I would not do a cup or foil anything…you’d be completely blocking the light. I’d do a somewhat open gallery if you are worried about the dark center. Definitely bezel it given that extra thin girdle. I actually really like your inspiration setting… maybe set it a tiny bit higher though?

Here’s the cert

That report does not look like the diamond in the video -- comparing table size and the pavilion facets -- which are very blocky on the long sides.

Am I just crazy?

@LilAlex this looks like a 46% width table to me…

@klrrrr I remember a setting that Sako did that would be great inspo for your ering setting. I just have to find the post on his grid!

Hahaha. I was looking at the "facet diagram" at the bottom -- I guess that's a logo? Have never seen this report.

Yeah the diagram is not an accurate rendition of this stone!

@klrrrr I can’t find the exact video, but here’s a beautiful setting Sako did for a stone with a similar silhouette to yours.

Just piping in to say that I’m a sucker for peruzzis, and this is a beautiful one.
