Hello,

After looking a radiant cut diamond for months for an engagement ring, I ended up ordering this https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD21039863?track=Detlink0

At the time they did not have the ASET image for it, I asked them to obtain it first before they send me the diamond, after about 4 weeks (they took the image themselves), I just got it! What do you think about it? Looks decent, but isn’t there too much white? My knowledge is definitely very limited and I’m hoping you guys can help me with this.

Thanks in advance.E64DDFCA-81E7-4570-B3E1-0FFF23E01AF1.jpeg

Well, personally, I think it looks good. I like the stone too.

You will probably get some darkness in the stone through the center in bright sunlight (just like a well-cut round brilliant goes dark
in bright sunlight).

The stone appears to have very good faceting precision and a nice shape. White is leakage, which can be ok in this facet arrangement (even desirable to an extent) if the leakages are scattered and small. In this case the leakage appears to be excessive, but it could be a result of the image being over-exposed at capture.

My guess is that a properly captured ASET of this stone would reveal more light return and less leakage and give more confidence about it's performance.

Thank you guys for the opinions, that’s reassuring, I was hoping the ASET would look somewhat decent, because I really liked the diamond itself! Happy to hear your thoughts!

More leakage than light return?

No thanks.

Using ASET with a white background is a waste of time on a radiant.
The reason is just a small amount of leakage in a given area and it goes white overpowering other light paths.

ASET with a black background will give a much more accurate assessment but even then I question if ASET can be used to pick a good one..

Then the back light on that image is around warp7 its a wonder it shows anything at all.

Thank you guys for the feedback, diamonds are a real complicated subject for me, I get the ring tomorrow, I’ll post some pictures, I really appreciate the help!

A dissenting voice.
That appears to be taken with IS Capture, the very first version of a photographic system developed by Lexus India and me. In general there is too much backlight so the leakage is exaggerated in my opinion.
That said I feel the stone is better than average but not "best".
But it has an exceptional spread for its carat weight, so that makes up for a lot of leakage.
Its good
