Our anniversary was yesterday and.....

Maybe that was his present to himself for being so good with saving up for your ring? J and I plan on having a piggy-bank sort of savings account where we both deposit money into it. When we have enough for my ring and his...whatever he wants (there are a few things in the running), then that's when we get both. Maybe he was thinking along the same sort of lines, except with just his money...?

That does kinda suck if that was how you celebrated your anniversary, though....I might be doing a fair amount of scowling if I was in your position.

my boyfriend and i had an agreement that when i got my ring i would buy him this ridiculous lcd hdtv as an engagement present....until he went out and bought it himself. then he couldn''t understand why i wasn''t excited for it!

That''s sure a twist on the whole concept of an engagement. The man is supposed to be asking for your hand in marriage. Since when does he get a "present"? His present should be your "yes".

haha i guess it is a little twist? I had really wanted to do something nice for him since i knew he wanted it extremely bad but wasn''t buying it because he was saving up for my ring (i do know that he did have the allocated amount saved up before he bought it though! at least i had that piece of mind...).

I totally agree. I started playing NASCAR racing game on PS2 and it was truly a bonding experience. In fact after I got into it he started doing more things that I like to do in return.

I would be disappointed too, especially on your anniversary. Let's hope he already has purchased the ring and had some money to spare!? Otherwise that's money that could have gone towards your ring.

Ugh this sounds very familiar....my bf did the same thing. I get so upset when he does something like that, and then I feel awful and selfish since it is his money. You are not alone, but I hope that means he already has the $$ set aside for you! Keep us posted. Where are you going away?

Lol I tend to agree with swingirl. I had no idea the girls got their FI''s engagement presents until a couple of weeks ago when I saw it on another thread. I would love to buy FI a tv like he''s always wanted, but I don''t have the funds.

I''m so glad he''s not into the whole video game thing though....what a relationship killer.

I had an ex that would sit in front of the tv for hours. It''s one thing to play for fun, but to come straight home from work, walk past GF and go straight to the videogame? Um...no. Then again, ex didn''t even have a job. Why am I talking about him???? LOL.

omg... I know!! In 2006, my FI (then-BF) called me two days after my birthday to tell me he''s bought himself one. The thing is, we were planning on getting engaged in the following months and I wanted to give it to him... And he knew it! He said he wanted me to keep my money. He said it didn''t affect the ring budget, but I was pissed off! I''m a big girl and I can take my own decisions regarding my money thank you very much.

He redeemed himself by taking me ring shopping and ordering my dream ring (and busting his budget) two or three weeks later. I put the money I''d saved for the XBOX on the setting, so he had more money for the diamond. He proposed less than two months after that.

I sympathise... And I hope your man redeems himself.

OMG mimzy my ff did the SAME THING! I was so pissed off! But in retrospect, he knew I''d be waiting lots longer and I''m sure he didn''t want to have to wait that long for the TV! AS IF!

I got him one of those moving waterfall picture thingees...he "says" that he always wanted one however with each day that passes i am coming to find out that he has "always wanted" ALOT of things..lol!
