Hi,

I was wondering you could give me some advice?
I'm looking at the following (oval brilliant cut) diamond at $55k - is it a fair price given the fluorescence? And can you send me links to diamonds that you think are in this range and very well cut. It doesn't have a dark bowtie, but a bit of "quietness" right in the middle - is that normal?

3.01 (11.22 x 7.89 x 4.91)
G color
VVS2
Girdle: Thick to Extremely thick, faceted
Depth %: 62%
Table %: 58%
Fluorescence: Strong Blue
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Grading: GIA

Many thanks!

Video of the stone would be helpful.

Mine is Very Good in Polish and Good in Symmetry, and I personally think its a beautiful stone. It actually has a unconventional cut, so not everyone here liked it when I was asking for opinion. But I love it, and that's all it matters.

It looks beautiful:) Thank you for your input.

I will try and get a video.

Here is another one I'm considering, what do you think?

Hi
I have a similar ring like Clcat120 above. Mine is 4.75 CT with two one carat half moons After one year of pining over it, we finally purchased it. I happen to love the longer more oval than round pudgy shaped oval stones. I think the 1:40-1:60 LxW ratios look better on the hand and compliment it better. At least on my hand.

Here are a few things to consider, IMHO:
1. What's your finger size? If you are trying to maximize coverage, you can try a bit elongated one like mine and @Diamond Best Friend, then set it in a three stone style. For your reference, mine is 1.4*9.3 and at 3.5 ring size.

2. You can easily go down to VS1 for oval, and a clean VS2 too. Mine is a VS2 and just a few small white crystal that are not even noticeable under 10x loupe. G is a good color if you are shooting for more whiter color stone. Then set on white gold or platinum will make it even whiter.

3. A chubby 8 main oval will look a bit like a round brilliant. Other than that, most 8 main oval tends to have a more crushed ice look. I personally favor larger faceting, which is not very easy to find in oval to be honest. 6 main oval may have more larger facets, but could have a bit more bow tie effect (not a really bad thing, just a contracting pattern that not attractive to a lot of people).

4. This specific one from JA you posted here looks ok. The center facets appear to be not very symmetrical, which is not a bad thing at all (mine is not symmetrical at all). However, it is hard to judge without seeing the stone. I personally prefer using BN as you can see the GIA certificate without having to request one. I checked on BN, skinny inventories!!! This four main oval is of a classic 1.3 ratio, and seems quite decent.

Thank you for answering some of the questions I've been struggling with. Couldn't make up my mind ito the faceting. I asked some of the online retailers, but they didn't really provide answers.
Does yours have a 4 main pavilion facet structure?
Yes, not a lot in that range at the moment!

I would stay away from your original choice at that price due to polish/symmetry and fluorescence issues. I would also caution against an oval with an “extremely thick” girdle. You just loose face up size.
The JA has weird facets.
The blue Nile recommended to you is a nice looking diamond if you are ok with a 1.3 ratio.

Mine is a 6 main. It has a bit weird middle section with a large culet and large faceting around it and not entirely symmetrical. It managed to achieve an overall good balance though. It has a faceting pattern more similar to an antique cushion or a chubby moval, to be honest. I love the fire, and I like to see the rainbow color staying on a stone vs just make a flash and disappear (common in crushed ice looking cut pattern as the facets are too small)

Beautiful! - I like the fire in the ring. I always thought I like the pin fire (?) of smaller facets, but now I think I prefer the bigger facets with the bolder flashes.
The middle section of ovals took a bit of getting used to for me. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the L:W ratio also...still much I have to learn!
My finger is much bigger than yours, I'm a 5.5 :)

@tyty333 Good day, I was wondering if I could ask you for your opinion on the above? I've been following your posts and I've learned a lot from what you've been posting. If you have the time and space to respond of course - will be much appreciated.
