I have a solitaire ring that tends to flop side to side. It is about half a size too large, but doesn't fall off, and I have an aversion to tight rings so I would prefer not to size it down. My finger size does fluctuate a bit too.

My jeweller suggested putting a small plate in at the base, like a speed bump. I guess I'd like to know if this will just help to hold it in place (great), or whether it would feel like a tighter ring (which I don't want)? I'd prefer to just let it flop rather than size down or feel sized down.

Thanks in advance!

Anything inside the shank is going to make the ring fit more tightly than if it wasn’t there.

I like the look of a ring that’s not dead center on the finger. So I’m no help here ::)

I don't have this in any of my rings, but wonder if two "balls" placed on either side of the bottom third of the shank would prevent spinning without giving you the feeling of your finger being constricted.

Thanks @yssie , and damn these pesky laws of physics :wall: I was hoping there might be some magical solution. I too don't mind an uncentered ring, but wondered if a diamond flopping about is more likely to get damaged? It sometimes flops all the way over to palm side when I'm using my hands iyswim.

Thanks @RMOO - that's what I mean - the feeling of being constricted. Finger suffocation. Muffin toppery. My jeweller advised against balls as he said they reduce ring size by much more than half a size, but suggested a bar like this (photo borrowed from a PSer, hope she doesn't mind! @Dee*Jay maybe you could weigh in if you're around!)

I have 2 balls soldered on each side because my ring had to be made at 5.75 to fit over my ever growing knuckles! My finger fluctuates between 5-5.5. I found that in winter months it spun around so much (very too heavy ring), it was annoying me, so I got the balls soldered, and problem solved! maybe you can request “half spheres” so that it doesn’t reduce the ring size as much? I do think having one on each side of the finger holds the ring upright better.

I have the sizing beads like @jaysonsmom and I also found them to keep my rings from spinning. Although, at times, it makes it more difficult to put on…

I have these which are more like cushions. I find them more comfortable than the little balls. Not sure if they would solve your problem as this ring doesn't spin much. They do act to make it a tad smaller, but not much.
