Hello, lovely ladies! Congrats to those of you who have recently gotten married or who are getting married this weekend! Hooray!

I don't know what it is with me--just can't seem to commit to a plan for what EXACTLY we are doing for our (legal) UK wedding or our US celebration. After some posts on here, we decided that the best bet would be to have a pre-wedding dress rehearsal sort of celebration in the states with my friends & family and then, shortly after, have a small, legal ceremony here with J's friends and family. So, we started looking into doing that, and all was good, and my folks were helping to find venues in the states, and we were weighing our options here in the UK (either this lovely venue for about 30 or so people, or registry office and nice dinner out to celebrate).

BUT! Now I have sort of fallen in love with a venue in the states for a few reasons--it's in the Poconos, somewhere where my family and I used to vacation every summer and where my beloved grandmother used to live, it's on a LAKE in the Poconos (am totally butt-crazy in love with all bodies of water), it's reasonably priced if we're having a "banquet" and not a "wedding," my aunt & uncle used to work there and say the food's yumtastic, AND they have bumper boats and I *so* want to go up against my friends in bumper boats while wearing my wedding dress. I want that photo!

So, this last bit (the bumper boats) kind of throws things a bit, because originally we were looking to do our US party at the end of March. End of March in the Poconos is usually still winter, so then we'd have no bumper boats.

When I think about moving the US party back to the end of May or beginning of June (if they have dates available--mid-week is a-ok with me!), then it works weather-wise AND I am pretty sure I'd be ok having it after the legal wedding if it got to be the sort of thing I've been imagining, which it would be especially because J's MOM said that she talked to J's sisters and they would all be willing to fly over to the US so we could have one big celebration, instead of two separate ones! (We will call the sisters to confirm this tomorrow, but how cool would that be?!

So, yeah. I realize I must be totally whacko to have had about 23467598423 different ideas for when and where to do our weddings, BUT this one is the sort of deal I have been imagining all along that I thought was out of reach--beautiful location, warm weather, casual BBQ type atmosphere (they have a BBQ banquet option), everyone all together, and with fun stuff to do that's a little unusual! AND it's all in a sentimental place, and in budget!

Let's just hope that finding a dress and choosing shoes is easier and less time consuming...

Hii gwendolyn

I''ve seen your previous threads on being confused about where to have the wedding due to family and friends being across the pond and I just wanted to say that its great that things seem to be falling in place for you! It''s really sweet how you have managed to find a place so sentimental to you and your childhood and where you''ll be able to involve all of your family and loved ones

I really hope things go smoothly for you and I can''t wait to see what wedding dress and shoes you pick!!

Oh gwen, I want to see that photo of the you in your dress in a bumper boat too!

LOVE this idea!

This new plan sounds really perfect. And don't worry about the indecisiveness. I truly believe finding a venue is the hardest part of wedding planning and you have the additional challenge of living in the UK while your family is in the US. You've done incredibly well!

Thanks for your replies, KittyBling and Inanna!

I am going to feel *so* much better when everything's decided and we can finally move forward with the planning. And yes, I definitely want that photo of me in my dress in a bumper boat. Does that make me weird?

I think the change in the time of year confused my dad a lot, though--got a "whawhawhaaaa?!" email from him earlier.

He's out all day today, so I won't be able to speak to him properly until tomorrow, but I sent him an email to try to explain my train of thought. Hopefully he doesn't think too badly of me for changing things around again!

Oh, gosh, Gwendolyn, I cannot WAIT for the day when I have my venue and date settled so at least something is done and I'm not all over the place anymore. (Plus, I'm also doing the bi-continental thingamajig.)

So, yeah, I can see that you're just anxious to settle things, but this venue sounds SO GREAT and so "you". You have to go for it! I know originally you wanted to do the U.S. ceremony before the UK ceremony, but given the weather constraints and the sheer fabulousness of this place, would it really be such a problem to switch the events around?

Gwen, the bumper boats sounds so incredible!!!!!!!

I hope that J''s fam will be willing to fly out to the US for that!!!!! That would ROCK!!!!

Keep us posted on what they say tomorrow!

I love the Poconos! And I love bumper boats -- I think you should make it happen! That''ll be a wonderful celebration.

It''s going to feel great once you have all the major decisions out of the way.

Good luck!
