Lovely ring! But I leave it to the experts to comment on the pad quality and pricing.

On my screen I do not detect the typical pink/orange/yellow.

Too light, not enough orange to go with the pink and washed out... Not a padparadscha.

That said, they didn't do themselves any favours by taking the photos in sunlight - neither representative nor an accurate way of judging color in sapphire (since they commonly look worse than they are in sunlight even in very high quality and since colors are judged in diffused daylight/grading lamplight).

1+

dirty pink...

It’s very pretty but to my eyes it’s a weak tone pink / peach sapphire. And remember such photos have been “optimized” so I suspect in person in normal light it will be even less “pad looking”.
Seems everyone is jumping on the Padparadscha bandwagon.
I would expect to see more definite orange and a deeper body tone.

My padparadschas and some light rosepink, peach and orange sapphires.

And yes - my padparadschas are windowed, terrible cut!!!
But unheated and quite cheap....;)

My favorite is the little one with a fine mix of orange and pink but I love the deeper orangeypink too.

First the three pads - direct sunlight, indirect sunlight and table down

The larger one is a good example why you should check them in daylight - in incandescent light really nice but in daylight weak and with the wrong skin tone a chameleon you will not see..

Many big reputable labs consider a range for pads. Even though the range is limited, some pale, or brownish ones may be considered. It’s like pigeon’s blood, a great portion may not be attractive to many but given the designation in the report. The real nice ones that the PS community would consider a pad in reality are very, very limited. Even a light peach sapphire is rare. The supply just cannot meet the demand.

I think the disconnect is because an unattractive stone can be a pad in a report, and the asking price of the seller can be significant. Even if the stone is attractive, just by having the pad designation in the report, there is a premium.

I say buy for beauty. The price of the stone is how much a buyer is willing to pay for it. Personally, I would only pay a premium for truly beautiful stones.

This an example for a fine hotpink stone wth a large orange patch.

Not a padparadscha - even in a lighter colored stone.

Think heated but I have to study the small inclusion

Faceup an orangeypink

Table down an orange patch - two pics using 30x magnification in immersion ( water ) in transmitted and uplight...

Sorry for the quality - make it with my Ipad through the okularIMG_1894.JPG IMG_1901.JPG IMG_1903.JPG

I like the JBG pad ring a lot. There sure are pads with a more perfect color mix out there, but for the price I think it's a pretty good deal. To my knowledge, GIA is not as liberal with pad designations as others (GRS...), so that would give me some peace of mind. Only thing that bothers me is that origin was "not requested". Maybe I'm being snobby about that, but my ideal pad would be from Sri Lanka.

GIA, in my experience, is very liberal with 'padparadscha' determination... I've seen light stones, brownish stones, predominantly-brown-but-with-some-pink stones, yellow-orange stones and so many others get that keyword. Much African material and commonly slightly brownish (not to say there aren't any good ones - some of the best pads out there come from Mada). It looks like most labs nowadays have pretty wide definitions but I guess eventually they'll all get together again for a meet up to try to standardize/box it.

Thanks everyone for your opinions!

I definitely think that is a pad. Unheated pads generally have less vibrant colors, but I see orange and pink in there. Pads come in a WIDE range of colors. My unheated pad is very similar to this one. Seems like a decent price although I like a pad set in rose gold myself.

Did you buy it as it is now marked SOLD.........????
