I was searching through all the gem stone e-rings this afternoon and noticed this wonderful Sapphire. I'm not sure where to even begin looking online for quality pads. I'd really like to explore them as another option for my e-ring. I'm trying to narrow down my picks for the future fiancé as not to overwhelm him!

Here is the one I like. Image was taken from the colored e-ring pages

I am on the same hunt that you are and have found loads of information throughout this site. In terms of where to search I would start with the pinned vendor list under the colored stone section, as there are loads of vendors and their websites to peruse through.
In terms of the stone that your thinking of what size, budget, color, shape are you looking for as that will help us narrow down the search. Good luck in your hunt!

I'm not sold on any shape. Pretty open on that front. I do like ovals, cushions and step cuts though. The diamonds we've looked at are 1ct mostly but it seems with a Sapphire I could go higher; maybe 1.5-2 ct. And stay in budget. On the stone it would be great to stay under 5k. I like a light colored stone... No neon pinks/oranges for me. Ultimately it will be set in rose gold if the color is right.

Thanks for the help.

I am sorry to say that your $5k budget is insufficient for a quality 1.5 ct untreated padparadscha sapphire. Strangely enough, these are never neon so you won't get any savings by looking for a lighter stone. If open to a heated stone, you might be able to find something within that dollar amount.

What about a pink sapphire? Between 1-1.5 cts?

I think I spot windowing and the color is not beautiful. It looks kind brownish in some areas... Given that color (which I don't like) with the inclusion, this would be a no go for me.

i am so not an expert on pads, and there seems to be enough confusion even in the trade that it's hard to define.

see dick hughes' essay on pad coloring defined:

i don't think you are necessarily looking for the trade's definition of ideal color since you want something very pale. is this along the lines of what might interest you? i believe simply sapphires has a pretty good reputation on ps (though you should confirm).

Yes! I definitely like that color but not sold on the band. Anyone have good/bad experience with this dealer? They seem to have reasonable prices but you never know.

I have not dealt with SS but others on PS have had good experiences. You can ask the vendor if he is willing to sell you the stone without the setting.

Do you like this color? Personally I love some of the sapphires that he has on his site, website is : http://www.atggems.com/index.htm
I have no first hand experience but it is a pinned vendor and he has some beautiful stones!! Have you branched out and looked at some spinels as a possibility as well?
