Hello there!

I'm new, but I've been reading this forum for awhile. I'd like to show this padparadscha and get some opinions. It's certified as an untreated pink sapphire that conforms with the color "padparadscha" and is just over 3.5 carats. This picture is tiny -- sorry! -- but shows the color very well. It's a light orange-pink with no defects that I can see. Could some of you with more experience advise me on the quality and fair value of this stone?

Thank you so much!!

Thanks, movie zombie and henri!

Here's another picture. It's not very good either -- sorry. This one shows it being a little pinker than it really is. It actually has more pale orange in it, like in the other picture I posted.

I can tell you that the clarity seems very very high to me. The color is not very saturated. But I read that saturation is not considered as important for padparadschas as for other rubies and sapphires...?

I don't recall the lab, but it's a reputable one.

Thanks again!

Hi, Padfan...I think it looks lovely. Looking at the first picture, I was wondering if there''s a slight brownish undertone to it. But regardless, big, certified unheated padparadschas don''t exactly grow on trees!

Can you tell us more? Is it yours? Are you considering buying it? Is it an estate piece? Do you remember which lab did the report? Do they state country of origin?

questions, questions!

This ring is beautiful. I am a huge pad fan myself and also own one, but not this big. I wish mine was this big.

Hi,

I don''t know where you read that but saturation is extremely important, indeed, most lab will define as padparadsha only very saturated stone.
I can clearly see the orange in the stone, as well as the pink, to me it''s a bit too orange and not saturated enough to be perfect, I would rate it rather "orange-pink" but indeed it''s a very very nice stone.
I would not bet it''s origin is Sri Lanka, rather Madagascar (most usual origin fir such kind of stone), even if such color come out in both, as well as Tanzania and Burma.

It is almost impossible to give market value based on a photo, and particularly a small one but I would put it in the $8000 range (consumer).
Would it be more saturated it may go as high as $40 000 so you can see saturation is a point when dealing with padparadshas.

I don''t know that much about valuing pads but it looks lovely! I''ve been in search of a sapphire of this color. If you pass on it let me know. I would love to see more pictures.

Hi, thanks everybody!

Actually someone (fiance) is considering buying it for me!! It''s in France, and so I don''t have too many more details. I think it''s beautiful, too! Thanks for the advice, I just wanted to do some support research, but I''m going to say ... I''m all for it.

Thanks again!
