Please tell me more about your peridot octagon. What size is it? Where did you buy that setting? Thanks in advance

Hi cemrn - I'm happy to give you any info about my peridot! It's 3.64ct and about 9.45mm across the flat sides, and 9.93mm across the points. I'd asked Gene (Precision Gem) specifically for an apple-green peridot without any olive and with as little yellow secondary as possible, and he delivered this Pakistani one in his Star 80 cut. It actually has 10 sides, but it's hard to tell in the setting. I took a trip to the diamond district in NYC, and happened to find the 18K setting - I'm really pleased with how everything turned out. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Here's the vendor pic so you can see the sides better.

Oh wow I couldn't tell the 10 sides in the setting. I was looking at setting ideas for this stone. It is kinda a fun little stone that is not flat across the top but comes to an apex. I need to photograph it perhaps tonight. I am really not a very visual person. Meaning it is hard to me to imagine what something will look like in the end. I am not even that good at putting outfits together. I like to see it on display and say, cute I want that. LOL
You have soooooo much more experience setting stones than me. I'd love to see your top 2 or so picks for setting this stone......

PS gorgeous color. Gene does not disappoint

OOOOH crap. I tripped over the cat and the stone hit the tile. I was so flustered when I picked it up I dropped it again. UGH. Nasty chip in it plus on small one on the back. Grrr I don't know if there is any saving it. I'll go have a cry now :(sad

OMG, I am so sorry to hear that :(sad You are not alone, I just chipped my newly acquired garnet from Uli a couple of months ago...

Why don't you just drop Dan an email, he might be able to salvage the situation. It might just require some polishing? I have great experience working with him. Gd luck and keep us update!

Oh nooo! That's so awful, poor you  It may be too soon to mention this, but there's always another stone.

I'm sorry to hear this! :((

Oh no - I'm so sorry!! Can you get photos of the chips? Maybe the stone can still be salvaged, and I agree that you should contact Dan. I truly hope something works out! I think most of us CSers have chipped a stone one way or another (I've done it with tweezers, sending the stone flying!), and it's always heart-wrenching. Hugs!

I'm going to look up the info on your stone to see if I come up with any ideas - sometimes the size helps determine how I set things. I tend to halo smaller stones, but I have a few larger ones that I've been setting in simple necklaces.

It is a 9.1mm. I did take some photos but I am too tired to post them right now. Besides that my 8yo DD is guilting me terribly because she wants me to come to her karaoke talent show at day camp. Yesterday she told me she wasn't doing it. Today she is in tears. I can't miss work tomorrow. UGH what a night. Sorry TOTALLY off topic. I just want to go to bed and start over again.
Thanks for the support

Oh gosh, yes, you need a do-over for this night! My youngest daughter is turning 8 this week, so I know how high those emotions run! Hope you get some rest, and we'll be here tomorrow.

Well thanks for the support. She is so moody I hate to think what hormones are going to do to her in 4 years or so! Yesterday she called me at work twice begging me to pick her up late because she was playing and having fun. Today it took me 20 mins to leave the place because she was crying and begging to go to work. It sooooo breaks my heart. I question whether working is fair to my kids. I work 30 hrs/week mostly while they are in school. I am home by 5. Oh just venting way off topic again. I probably need to go to hangout.
I also started a thread with "chips" pics
