I am trying to figure out a gift for my SIL and her boyfriend, they both live in the city.

Instead of doing separate gifts, I thought that a "Date Night" for the two of them would be nice. Most people don't do these kind of things for themselves, and they are really trying to save money, so I don't think they have really had many date nights where it is just them.

I was thinking about a dinner cruise on the Hudson, but don't want to get a cheesy one that is for tourists. Do any of you know of a nice one that is a dinner or a wine tasting or something?

Or any other ideas that you know of, along these lines, and I would like to have the entire thing paid for before they go.

I know that I could get them tickets to a show, but she is pretty picky about the shows that she wants to see, and I don't want to spend that kind of money if I'm not sure she would like it.

TIA!

NYer here :wavey: Try GOLDSTAR.COM they list so many dinner cruises at a discount and also many other shows and things to do in the city. There are so many restaurants here in the city..but maybe you can try http://www.craftrestaurant.com/ this is the restaurant owned by TOM COLICCIO (from Top CHEF). He also just received the JAMES BEARD 2010 Outstanding Chef award. I've heard this place is GREAT..never been but am thinking of taking my husband for his bday.

Also there is http://www.bateauxnewyork.com/ I've never been (went to one in Paris) but Goldstar has a deal for this dinner cruise too.

GL!!!

Yes, Mer, I heard that the Bateaux cruise is wonderful. My boss is an MD who has great taste and she is always raving about how awesome that cruise is.....I would check into it!! ;))

Thanks girls!

I am falling in love with that Goldstar website. There is so much fun stuff to do in NYC.

Have you all heard of The Amazing New York Race?!?! THAT sounds like a blast to do on a Sunday afternoon! (minus the taxi fares of course, ha.)

yes I'm addicted to GOLDSTAR.com ever since I found it I check it constantly. I can't tell you how much money I've saved but also how many things were going on in my own city that I had no clue about. I did see the amazing race thing..I would LOVE to do that one day!

I think this is such a cute and thoughtful gift idea! I'm sure they'll love it.

One thing to consider is the time of year - not sure if they would be going now or in the spring, but its COLD here now and it's only going to get colder. So if the gift is something to be used during the winter, I would make sure it's mostly indoor stuff.

One thing DH and I have done which is fun is http://watsonadventures.com/schedule.html - basically this company does scavenger hunts throughout different places in the city and you can work on teams. We did one at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one in Central Park (my husband proposed on that one!), and one in the Bronx Zoo. We always have fun, but it really depends on the people going whether or not it's the type of thing they would enjoy.

Ice skating in Bryant Park is also a fun thing to do, but again, that's only if they like ice skating ;)). I'm not sure if that's something you can pay for in advance though, so it might not work for what you're looking for.

The only "cruise" I've taken is the Circle Line but that's more touristy and not a dinner cruise so I don't think it's for your SIL and her boyfriend.

I'll try to think of other ideas and I'll ask my husband... he's usually good at coming up with fun date ideas!
