After learning that our outdoor ceremony location doesn''t provide any sort of fans, I decided to buy some paper fans just in case it''s extra hot outside. Has anyone used any paper fans before or done this for their wedding?
How''d it go?

Here''s what I''m thinking of using (the pink ones)

I''m from Florida and have been to a few outdoor weddings where they have provided hand fans- none that have been that darling though!

Plus they can double as a nice wedding favor! I noticed at asianideas.com that you can personalize them- that''s another option for you if you will be using them as favors too!

We are having an outdoor ceremony next month and we are doing fans - however they are doubling as our programs too. Basically our program verbaige will be on thick card stock and their will be a stick (not a popsicle stick, but a fancy more decorative one that we haven''t quite figured out yet)....so people can use them as fans.

I know that they do the ''fan out'' type of program fans as well (similar to your picture) - if you have a lot of information to include in your programs. Hope that helps! :)

Otherwise the fans that you show above - are very cute if you don''t want to incorporate it into the programs. I just wanted to kill two birds with one stone and perhaps save some money

Shigidigi, thanks! I thought they were cute too! I noticed you could personalize them but since we''re not using them as favors, I figure I''ll save the $ (especially since it''s a cost I hadn''t even planned on initially!).

Msontaratta, you are better than me, we''re not even having programs! I figure people already know the basics and we''re not doing anything out of the ordinary so we''re keeping it simple (not to mention cost-effective). But I do like that idea of using the fans as programs too.

Now, I''m waiting for some more rsvp''s to trickle in so I know how many to order.

I wish they would hurry.

We got purple ones and I don''t think anyone even took one! The weather was so perfect but it was a good idea since August in the midwest CAN be very hot. I think they are a nice detail.

Tacori, reading what you said, it made me want to check the weather in Sept. Well, the last three years, it was either low 70's or low 80's. Now, I'm wondering do I need fans if the weather will probably be in the 70's.

What do you think? Although they're not a huge expense, right now, every penny saved helps b/c costs are adding up fast last minute!

ETA: Maybe I should wait until August to either make the purchase or not so I have a better feel for the weather early Sept.

Too bad you don''t want purple! I could just send you mine

We did have a 5:30 ceremony so I am sure that helped with the heat.

I don''t know, Dixie...they''re awfully cute, but we''ve had such a mild summer so far that I wonder how September weather will be. I guess you never know in the midwest, right? I think I''d wait until August and do some more research on the weather before I spent any extra money on fans. Our outside ceremony in ''03 on the 21st of Sept. at 12:30 was not hot at all, in fact it was about 70 degrees and there was a light breeze...it was actually the last nice weekend that fall, once we got into October things cool down pretty quickly.

Are you handing out programs that are thick enough to double as fans? Usually guests use those in lieu of fans, if they are substantial enough and are needed for that purpose.

Tacori, well, if I decide to order them and you really do want to sell them, I''ll be sure to let you know! Purple is just fine w/me!

Monarch, you''re right, it hasn''t been too bad here. That''s why I think I will wait until August to get a feel for the weather then. We''re not having any programs so if we don''t provide fans, there''s nothing. I know I went to a wedding here in the summer before and the heat was just horrible so I don''t want that for my guests. But w/my luck, I''ll buy them and then it will be only 70 degrees!

I was in a wedding a few weeks ago, and they did fans. They had oriental patterns on them though (birds and such). I think she got them at the oriental trading company, so they were inexpensive, but they made a pretty nice breeze. It was a good thing to because it was 96 degrees that day (and still hot (high 80s or so) by 6:30, which was her wedding time) I think that somehow not all of the guests knew about the fans though because a lot of people were fanning with the little programs instead (which were only the width of a 1/2 sheet of paper, so they weren''t ideal for fanning). So, just make sure that whoever hands them out is on top of things.
