Paraiba tourmaline...is this price average!?

For that price, I would require an AGL Pretige report indicating the quality of color and the origin. Brazilian paraibas cost a premium, but yes, that's typical of a moderately saturated Brazilian stone. The top quality color Brazilian material can be at least $20K/ct. If it's unheated, then the sky is the limit. Assume heat treatment on all stones unless otherwise noted/proven by a reputable lab.

Here's some more stones, mainly African in origin, but very high priced. I'm really glad I bought my cuprians when I did.

Of course, clarity, saturation and hue ( the bluer ones are more valuable ), determine the pricing, but I find even the pale limpid ones are getting pretty expensive.

Here are some Brazilian ones with fine color assuming the photoshopping is true to color. Check out the 3.14 for $100K

:o well guess i'll be waiting to grab one of these !!! If anyone has any pictures of theres I would love to oogle :twirl:

Has anyone purchased paraiba from Africangems.com? His prices for the African stones seem really high. The windex color Brazilians are actually in the ball park. I have seen a couple of 3 carat stones and the asking prices are ~$30,000 per carat. Marc's father is Andrew Sarosi. I have seen his paraibas at the Intergem shows, gorgeous stones, but out of my price range. Some of the set jewelry on the website are from Andrew's collection.

AN,
Here's one from ParaibaInternational that is African, not particularly saturated, and is $14K. It's a pretty stone, but $14K for a 2.37 ct stone  That's the price of a white diamond that size.

This stone is full of inclusions, but because it's Brazlian, he wants $20K for it. I have an African piece that is a dead ringer for this stone.

I'm a bit shocked to at these prices. Decent paraiba is tough to find, and I think dealers are just charging what they want because demand is there (I assume). These are retail prices of course, if you can find a dealer that has less middlemen, perhaps you can get them cheaper, you would hope.

You would think that with the economy in such bad shape, the prices for paraibas would come down. But it looks like they are still going up. The Parainternational included Braziian stone looks even more included and less saturated than the one offered to me for $16,000 last year, that I did not buy. The African one is much cleaner, but still, ~$7,000 per carat for a 2+ carat, not so saturated stone is a bit much. Candice, what are you looking for? Good luck.

Colored diamonds and any gem that is a very rare find, doesn't seem to be affected by the economy. I'm really not surprised.

im not seriously in the market for a paraiba tourmaline, I just love that neon colour!! is anyone attending JCK toronto? I work for a watch company and we'll have a booth there. this will be my first jewellery show =) what can i expect? any of this exotic material like paraiba? I would love to see some in person to get a feel for it!

You can probably find some paraibas at the AGTA section.

Or wait till they strike another mine? I try to be optimistic.

You all know I love paraiba tourmalines, and I've seen some extremely fine glowy ones in person, but I think the prices are nuts, especially for a very non-durable stone like tourmaline. I'm glad I bought mine when I did, but I can't justify spending $20K or more per carat on a heated blue gem. It's just crazy.

Maybe I should open a paraiba store with all mine!!! Ll
lol! I'd be living in the carribean.

I’ve noticed prices aren’t moving much, if at all, for most fine quality gemstones, even during this very poor economy. My guess is that since most were purchased at peak prices, nobody wants to take a huge hit by slashing prices. The only ones that I see pricing inch downward a little are on smaller and commercial quality gemstones. On the plus side, tanzanite prices are still falling. :cheeky:

Tourmaline lover: ITA...its hard for me to justify that price with something i cannot even wear everyday...i'm like that with all my jewellery. i'll invest if i can get my wear out of it!!
