Hello everyone,

Tolga here from Turkey.

I've recently acquired 3ct solitaire paraiba(brazilian origin). It doesnt have a certificate though,which is the main issue i got.
In my country,we have couple gem labs but none of them states origin(i think they are either ignorant or dont have the equipment).I will be in bangkok in september and can do the lab there.

Pictures are attached.

I would like to get the input of the experts about the quality of this gem. Also approx. market value,etc since i dont know much about colored gems.My assumption is about 4000 USD per ct or is it outrageous?

Any tips on how to sell this is super welcome.

Thank you very much,

Hi, most people do require a lab report because they like the comfort and certainty, especially paying many $$$$ per carat.
Your gem definately looks like a Paraiba Tourmaline and the clarity looks good too (Paraiba are usually included).
Your options in Turkey for sale might be limited, if you’re going to Bangkok perhaps a gem trader might purchase it from you?
With a lab report you could try Loupe Troop or Better than Diamond, these are selling websites that lots of people here on Pricescope use or perhaps eBay. It might be easier if you have family or a very good contact in the US to try and sell it on your behalf. I for one wouldn’t be comfortable buying from Turkey because I have heard (and I don’t know if this is true or not) that mail can be easily lost or contents stolen.

Hi, @myrica :wavey: There is a GIA lab in Bangkok & their lab reports have international recognition, so if you're going to sell the stone outside of Thailand, that would be a plus.

GRS (Gem Research SwissLab)
http://gemresearch.ch/
is better known in Europe than in the USA, but has a good reputation & opened a lab in Bangkok several years ago. The turn-around time, however, is likely to be longer than with the GIA lab.

I know the AIGS lab in Bangkok also has global recognition:

Some years ago, it was getting rather mixed reviews here on PriceScope, but I don't know what its current reputation is. Perhaps other PSers can offer you more up-to-date feedback on the AIGS lab and/or make other suggestions.

Since you plan on selling the stone, let me add that I think it's important that
  • you ask the lab to conduct an origin assessment so that finding will appear on the report & you can price the stone appropriately
  • the lab have a website feature which permits prospective buyers to verify the lab report & reassure themselves that the lab report you show isn't a fake
Best of luck to you, let us know what you find out!

@MollyMalone @Bron357 ,
Thank you very much for your replies.
My main concern is the certificate actually. We dont do much colored stones in Turkey(unless i find specialised paraiba dealer,we have couple) and even with that, without certificate,it wont happen.Specifically origin certificate since i know there is a massive price jump between 1-2-3 ct for brazilian origin stones.

As for packages got stolen; never had that issue and i sent zultanite to US and back without any problems many times.

Ill be in bangkok in sept. for some AIGS trainings,so bangkok seems like an easy choice.Even though i know its a very open market,i dont know how paraibas are valued and popular there.

Any other inputs are also welcome,specifically about the stone's quality and approx. worth. Claritywise,i checked with the loop and there are 2 small brown lines that can be visible on the left and right side of the stone.

Woudn't it be time for the moderators to make a sticky about NOT buying valuable gems without valid reports? A very repetitive topic.

@Anne111

please keep that in mind that i'm asking expert advice on the quality of the stone and approx. market value.

I'm NOT here to sell this stone to any of the pricescope members.

Thank you very much and please read carefully next time.

No way to know if it’s been resin filled from your pictures, which affects value.

Sorry, you misunderstood me, myrica, please re-read, I was only suggesting to post a sticky about buying gems with report only, not about you selling your gem. sorry for being unclear.
