My goodness, I just happend to venture into Payless of all places with a "couldn''t hurt" state of mind and I found two pairs of really cute shoes and a pair of silvery filp flops.....all for $42!!! I had become quite dissapointed that most of the (much more expensive) shoes I''d been ordering from Zappos weren''t soft or at times even made from leather so I figured if the $92 Steve Madden ballet flats were going to feel stiff and awkward (

) then why not right? Mine as well see what Payless has for a fraction of that price.

What a smooth move on my part

As I think I found my wedding shoes there today!! Here were my requirements:
~silver (so I''ll wear them again),
~flat as possible (for comfort and to keep things a bit more even with my fiance)
~but still have a proper sole so I''m not feeling like I''m walking around in slippers all day,
~peep or open toe (so my pedi shows

),
~and no flip flops (don''t want that trade mark sound)
~or heel straps (they always bite into or slip off of my heel....what an annoyance).

Not too many requirements, right???

So, I found these. They were I think $19 bucks and are actually comfortable! And fit ALL of my requirements :)

Those are cute! I had a pair of Ninas that looked almost exactly like those, but I sold them on ebay because oops, silver didn''t go with my champagne dress! I got them at Nordstrom Rack for $30, marked down from $80, and they sold on ebay for $29. I think you got a good deal.

Now, are they REALLY comfortable? Every single pair of shoes I''ve ever bought at Payless has hurt like heck 20 minutes into wearing them!

Why not? I got a pair of ballet flats to wear to my wedding there. I''ll wear those for the pictures and ceremony and then switch to a pair of Skechers lace mary janes for the "fun" part-the reception! My opinion is, save the money for something that''s more visible, like the flowers.

I don''t wear "nice" shoes, or heels very often at all, and I get a lot of shoes at Payless because I don''t care if they only last for a season. And often, if I do get dressier shoes there, they last for years.

Thank you they are cute, aren''t they?! :) And your Nina deal is fantastic!! I don''t know if you remember my previous rantings about shoes but I found Ninas that I

and I am still keeping them. I''ll wear them for the pre-wedding (and many post-wedding) activities with pleasure as the height thing will be no problem then. But yes, the silver on the payless shoes IS exactly like the silver that Nina employs on many of her silvery shoes :) I can attest to that because I have both right here

As to your last question/point....I am SO testing that right now...as I type in fact.....because you are completely 100% on the mark; I have NEVER met a payles shoe that hasn''t killed and that''s why I haven''t walked into one of thier stores for a good several years now. I swore cheap shoes off forever (and by "cheap" I mean cheaply made). But, seriously, I was getting these $70-$100 ballet flats in from Zappos and Shoes.com like every other day and 90% of them had crappy uppers made of synthetic stuff anyway

I was quite dissapointed that for that money I couldn''t get some nice material.

I suppose I couldv''e spent $20 or $30 more to get some comfy leather but for a ballet flat??? Eh. Not so into that idea.

And I did try Nina''s flat....I think it was teh "smile" but the shape was unflattering for me.

I''ll wear these flats for a while and see how they treat me.

Well, you were on to something :) I even noticed that American Eagle is making shoes for Payless now...and I do remember now that I think of it that they''ve had some advertising burst occuring, imploring consumers to "take another look" or something like that.

I will definitely have to break these in, I''m not saying they are "right outta the box wearable to my wedding" but I have to do that with every shoe I buy (except those flip flops that Old Navy sells that have an all fabric upper) anyway.

I find that the discomfort problem for me is most often related to the style of the sole, rather than the cheapness or source of the shoe. I have flat feet, size 11, and need good arch support. Ballet flats have no support, period. Doesn't matter if you spend $80 or $8, they are a thin soled shoe with thin uppers. So the solution was simple!

I've recently bought some of those American Eagle keds style sneakers they sell, and have found them surprisingly comfortable. I also just started looking for shoes at Target. They actually have some cute heels, flats and sandals that are relatively well made.

ETA: I wanted super flat shoes for the wedding photos because I'm an inch taller than FI, which is why I went with ballet flats.

Good point!

I too am an inch taller so he is wearing these 2" heel quarter boots I found for him on zappos and I''m going flat. He may even sneak in a Dr.Scholls insole for more comfort and an additional 1/4 inch of height.

Cute! They look comfy too! I know several girls who have gotten wedding shoes at payless.

I wanted to post a pic of them on.....pardon my need for a pedi

Those are really cute! I think it''s funny that out of all the shoes I''ve bought, it''s the ones that aren''t known for their high quality that seem to last longer. I bought a few pairs of shoes at Macy''s a few years back and within a year, both were tossed. They were awful.

Thanx Zoebarltett!!! I wasn''t into the bow-at-the-toe look but this particlular bow looks less froo-froo to me for some reason. Perhaps because it''s a clean rectangular bow instead of the loop style we usually see? Plus, it has a slightly pointed toe which keeps it less froo-froo IMO. I''m just so excited to have the darn shoes picked out!! I''ve literally ordered about $1k of shoes online (and promptly returned them of course!) thus far in my search. The search would''ve stopped when I found Nina''s Honey''s but FI decided to have a wee bit of a height complex AFTER I fell in love with them

. Oh well, I''ll certainly feel more comfy in flats anyway.

Your welcome

I went to the website a couple times the past couple weeks but didn''t even come close to liking the shoes (in part because of my mental block to using Payless at all) but when you can go to the store and try them on, I wager you''ll be quite surprised :)

Good luck!

those are a great find! i actually find places like payless and target to be an often-overlooked goldmine for shoes
