Hello!

I'm in the process of looking for a suitable stone for a pendant

My fiance has an oval engagement ring (0.82 carat E colour 8.02mm x 5.13mm).

The options we are looking are oval (to match the engagement ring) or pear cut solitaires (possibly to be set with a halo). In terms of carat weight we are looking at 0.5-0.6 and the best quality we can purchase for the money. Our budget is at absolute maximum £1500 for the stone (including duty & tax) if we can get a quality stone for less it would be even better! In terms of clarity the minimum has to be VVS2.

These are the stones we are considering:

This oval matches the e-ring really well in terms of its proportions; we really like it, but are also considering pear cut stones. Please let me know if you think this would make a good pendant?

These are the two pear cut stones which I've liked so far. Please let me know your thoughts/if there is anything else I should consider? Or any flaws in these stones which I have missed?
Out of the two I prefer the smaller one, but am not sure how a G coloured stone will look when is worn with her E coloured engagement ring. Is this an important/relevant consideration?

Right now we are torn between both shapes and are not sure what is the better choice. In terms of my fiances parameters, petite, UK size 8.
At this moment she doesn't have a preference between the two.

It would be really helpful to have an insight into the stones we are looking at & also if anyone has a preference of one shape over another please feel free to share your reasons!

Thanks!
Claus

Are you sure about the measurements of the 0.82 ct oval being 8.02mm x 5.13mm??? That doesn't seem right.
Why nothing lower in clarity than VVS2?
I don't think it is necessary to have the same shape... unless that is what you want! I think the pear as the pendant makes a nice change from the engagement ring. If you are going to do a halo, I wonder if doing a halo on an oval would compete/overshadow the oval on the engagement ring???
As for color, I do understand what you mean. I like E colored stones and I have one ring with an e color and a pair of studs with an e color. But I also have a pendant (different shape, in a halo, actually!) that is an H, and I do see the difference. I don't know if others do. But I already had that diamond in the halo pendant before I had the e color ring and the e color studs so it is what it is, but definitely something to think about. If I were doing it the other way around, i would not have purchased the pendant lower in color than my other pieces. So good thing you are considering this element.

Thanks for your response!

Yeah the engagement ring dimensions are correct, just double checked the certificate to make sure

The reason for vvs2 and above is cultural - I'm not really sure what the basis is but will find out if you're interested!

That's an interesting point you raise regarding the oval with a halo - I had simply thought there is a lot more surface area on one's chest compared to their finger so a larger presence would be needed on the chest? Maybe my thinking isn't right?

Does the difference in the colour prevent you wearing the pendant with the ring & studs together?

What did you think of the stones which I'm considering?

Thanks,
Claus
