Hi all,

I''m hoping to find a pear shaped Amethyst, but know very little about this stone or what is considered a great cut or color. I found the pendant I want at a mall chain jewelers, but I''m doubting the quality of the stone is that high up.

Here''s a link to that pendant:

http://www.benbridge.com/store/product.php?productid=8970&cat=0&page=1

Does anyone have any tips on where to start hunting? FWIW, I''m not a fan of the concave cut, so I guess I''m looking for a more traditional (if that is what you would call it) cut stone.

Thanks for any info.

Oh, and also I don''t have much money to spend on the stone, so I can''t spend hundreds.

I think that pendant at Ben Bridge is gorgeous! I'd seriously just buy that one! Amethyst is so inexpensive, that I don't think stone quality will vary that much as long as you buy at a nice jeweler. I don't think it is worth buying a lose stone and having it set, personally, if you can find one you like already set. Color is just personal preference since they range from deep purple to light lavendar.

Gosh, I just saw that they have the matching earrings, too! How pretty! I think that is my favorite pear pendant setting that I have ever seen.

I agree with diamondseeker. It''s a very pretty pendant and priced very reasonable; I''d buy it. The only color of amethyst I don''t care for are washed out and that pendant looks like a nice color and very lively.

Thanks gals! I recently purchased a pendant from BN that ended up having a very pale amethyst, so I was thinking I should order the next stone loose, but you gals are right that I should just buy it preset! The design is really cute and fun! The earrings would be great too but for now the necklace will have to do since I''m limited to a tight budget.

Is there any way you can call them and ask about the stone in the particular necklace they''re sending you? They might be willing to pick one out for you if you get their attention.

Thanks for the advice. There is a Ben Bridge nearby me, so I will go in and ask to see more than one necklace to compare stones. I didn''t even think of that. They do have the same setting with a garnet in it, so it''s actually a fairly generic type setting, so they probably have more amethyst ones in back.

I''m planning to buy it in a few months. We just got our nat. gas bill and it was $1000!!! lol So, looks like my jewelry buget is on hold for a bit.

Hey Michelle, it reminds of my set from Fortunoffs, I noticed you had posted in it way back then. HEre is a link-

I really like the one you posted btw. It''s funny, but I haven''t worn this in a while, so I decided to wear it the other day to a dinner and I seem to have lost the bracelet that I bought to go with the set. I looked everywhere, but can''t find it.

I wish that the amethyst my mom had set in my great grandmother's e-ring looked like the one you are considering! My amethyst is far too dark for my tastes. So while a pale amethyst is not what you are looking for, you definitely do not want to go too dark, which is true for many gem stones.

Totally understand where you are coming from on this. I was all set to have Wink send me an aquamarine to replace my dark amethyst, but then my cat had to have an unexpected $1400 surgery, so I had to ask Wink to hold it for a month. Though, I think I would rather spend money on my cat than on a gas bill, so I am sorry about that!

Yep, I''d rather keep my cats healthy. Hope your kitty is doing well!

I ordered a bezel amethyst from BN that is very pale. It''s pretty, but I''m not sure if I want to keep it. I may just hang on to it and decorate my dresser with it.
