I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but had a question- sometimes when I look down at my hand at a ring, I thing that it's not that big or that I could go bigger (DSS, I know). When I walk past a mirror though, and look from farther away, the same ring looks huge to me. Anyone else experience this ? Makes me wonder if any DSS I feel is a skewed perspective. Curious to hear people's thoughts/experience on this, if they're willing/wanting to share.

Ha! Definitely. I often flash my ring in the mirror for a bit of perspective - otherwise, just looking down on it, I think "Ah that's a perfectly logical size for my hand, don't suppose I really could go smaller" and not "Wow, that is a massive diamond!" (4ct) which really is closer to the truth. It is a VERY helpful correction strategy! I think one just gets used to it, which probably exacerbates (or is the source of!) DSS.

Loll- Glad I'm not the only one and yes, totally agree- it IS a very helpful correction strategy when I start to experience DSS

Absolutely. I think mine looks small, but then in some situations around my peers, it feels too large. I do not want to look flashy at all. There is nothing wrong with being flashy and fancy, but it's just not my style and I feel self conscience. So, at times I feel it's too large, but it really isn't. I don't know if that even makes sense lol

I can totally relate with what you shared. I think that's why I have such mixed feeling on my rings when I see it from different perspective. Totally makes sense!

I love admiring my ring on my DD’s finger bc it looks huge!! And I have smaller hands!

So cute! I've done this before with my littles but they tend to want to run around with it so I stopped- ha. It is the best perspective though!

Yes! I often think mine looks small as a 1.12 halo, and then I see it in pics and I’m like ok it’s looks hug like here.

I do think DSS is a skewed perspective. Our brains get "used" to seeing something, and then we have an opinion about it...which can literally change the way we see something. A bit of a Catch-22 situation. Think of people who have eating disorders who, dangerously thin, look in the mirror and think that they're overweight. :???: DSS is the opposite of that. ;)2

A quick glance in a mirror or a reflection definitely gives a more correct perspective.

I have a friend who loves to wear my jewelry when we go out to dinner. I always sit across from her and admire my pieces on her hands. They look much much bigger from afar!

Such an interesting question. None of my diamonds look big to me but I have had people comment that they are big. I think I am distracted by my arthritic knuckles and I developed OA in my hands when I was 15 years old.

Thanks so much for sharing- so interesting to ready these different perspectives!

What a sweet friend you are!

Well.... I'm probably a bit more loosey-goosey than most when it comes to my pieces. I actually let a server at The Red Lobster put on The Brick and wear it to the kitchen to show her boyfriend who was cooking.
