Having used both extensively myself, I would have to say that film will give you "warmer" images, and the photographers that are still using film are doing so because they are damned good at it.
Having said that, many of the pros have invested in digital backs for their premium equipment, and can photoshop the images for some startlingly warm effects. Best to check portfolios of the photographers, as that will give you a better idea of their skill. It''s really the composition of the shot that counts, not so much the equipment used.
there are camps on both sides, but my photog switched to digital a long time ago. He says you can''t beat the ability to see the pics right after you take them, to adjust the settings, so he prefers that. Plus less time in the darkroom and photoshop can do a lot.
I think nowadays with the really really top notch digital SLRs you get just as good quality wise as the old digitals, or at least, not noticeably different - my photog has huge blown up pics from his digital work and it looks awesome to me! I think it has more to do w/the person behind the lens as opposed to the type of camera.
Although as a hobby photographer, I do have a sense of nostalgia towards film, there''s something about developing it in the darkroom that just feels different.
How funny! Steve Keegan (accentoflight.com) is our photographer too! And I didn''t even think to look for recommendations here on PS! Great minds think alike, eh? I got a great vibe from him over the phone too. I just checked out msflutter''s posts and he''s coming out to LV for our wedding too! Too funny!
I always thought digital was better until I saw my photographer''s photos (shot with film) and I was totally blown away. I agree the Doctor''s comments above - especially that the people that shoot with film, shoot with it because they are spectacular at it. I am also in the LA area and my photog. is coming from Santa Barbara to shoot the wedding She''s also really affordable, you get 4x6 prints of all the pics AND all rights to the negatives right away (which is really cool and hard to find with good photographers). Her name is Kasey Lennon and her portfolio is on www.rikkazimmermanphotography.com but her pictures in real life are above and beyond her online portfolio. My FI and I met her in Camarillo (about half way) -- AND it''s a good excuse to go outlet shopping
