how do you take those gorgeous macro shots of your ring?

when i try to get real close to the ring to take pictues of the details, it fades into blurry oblivion.
i am taking them with a digital camera...does anyone have any tips so i can figure out how to share
my sparkly with the world??

I''m an absolute novice too. However, one thing I''ve noticed is taht my camera has this little flower symbol button. Pressing that seems to help. What also helps is a tripod if possible. When you''re that close, any movement of your hand just makes the picture that much blurrier.

The flower symbol is the macro setting. You must have the camera set on it to get a decent picture. That said, I''ve noticed some folks can get really detailed close up shots whereas I can get close but not REALLY close.

Can anyone tell me how they get those really close up shots?

since you may not have the "flower" symbol on your camera, one "high tech"

way to find the macro setting, would be to set up your shot and then cycle through the different settings to see which one works. good luck!!

GoldenGirl has some suggestions...I will run over to the "are we there yet?'' thread and be right back with instructions!

In macro mode, push the shutter button halfway down and hold it there until the camera has a chance to focus in properly. then push the shutter button the rest of the way down. Keep the flash off too. It took me a while to get some decent pictures.

Funny thing I have found is that web cams of all things take the best macro shots. I have my digi cam, and took some pisc, but the look like crap, and I can''t find my web cam, oh well such is life.

Try your web cam, set it and your subject on a level surface and play with the focus, you will be quite suprised at the results. The only downfall is no flash.

does anyone here know how to post pics in the fourm, or can you?

Peace...

yes the flower symbol is the key--for close ups i think its about 6" to 18"-------one other key factor. the less there is to focus on around your photo the better--digital camera''s cant cope with too much detail around the main subject

Yes, the flower is the macro setting. Pushing down half way also helps to "lock" in the focus. But the most important thing is to read your manual

(that''s the part I hate) to see what the range of your macro is for your particular camera. If it is not w/in a certain distance, no matter what you do you will find yourself frustrated and feeling unskilled.

Depending on the camera, it generally allows you to get as close as 3 to 6". My camera allows me to get w/in 1.5". I love it but I still get challenged by getting nice closeups.

But at least I know what my camera is capable of doing. Now I just need to keep practicing, practicing, practicing!
