Wow, check it out. This is a J color stone! 1.38 Ct, VS1 What do you all think?? By the way, this is scoring a 1.2 on the HCA!

Ok, check this link for pictures:

ok, now i can''t post the pictures. What the heck???

Looks good, altho it looks a little lopsided. The top arrows don''t line up. The light leakage is a little weird too. Could just be the angle at which the picture was taken though.

Its not a h&a diamond nor a super-ideal but it looks decent if the price is right.

hmmmm, now i''m getting discouraged. It scores really well on the HCA. It''s going to cost me $5900 for the stone, too much now? I thought it looked pretty good.

I actually think it's a very nice stone. It's not an ACA, but you are not paying the premium for it. It looks like something from the Expert Selection and better than probably 95% of the stones you may find in your travels.

If it's priced well, I think it's great. If you want closer to perfect, buy an ACA, one from NiceIce, a Venus by Infinity, a Superbcert or a choice selection from GOG or DI

I bet you that stone looks fabulous in real life.

If you're not paying the premium, I say go for it. The Idealscope image looks like it's givign awesome light return. In real life, it's going to look amazing.

Some people want the name and to be able to say it's their diamond is something or other. With the naked eye, no one can tell. This diamond is going ot sparkle like mad. It's a very good cut (in terms of light return) judging from the IS image. If the price is good, just go for it.

Well the price is round-about $5900, which I think is fair, not sure it''s great as in knocking my socks off, but then again this diamond sure seems nice compared to others in my price range.

This doesn''t look like a "J" to me.

The stats (angles and %) sure point to a very pretty and well cut stone. Not a perfect H&A but it''ll be darn hard to tell with the naked eye. Iscope looks very nice too and shows that it will sparkle well.

I have a 1.25 carat J, ACA from WF and NOBODY knows it''s a J. Not even jewelers, unless I tell them.

That diamond has great stats, the IS is very nice, the arrows are good enough that many Vendors would try and pass it off as an H&A.

WF are great folks to work with. Definitely worth a look see to know if your eyes will love it.

Well cut J''s can offer great bang for the buck and allow you to maximize your budget.

i have a 1.2 J and it''s icy white unless i''m under one of those yellow tinted lightbulbs.
in flourescent light (aka my office) it sparkles so much it blinds me sometimes. (it''s got med. blue flouresence)

sometimes i wonder, oh, it''s a J, everyone else seems to have a D or E or F... but hands down, i love my stone, no one can ever tell it''s a J, and it sparkles so much that i don''t even care. we sacrificed color for clarity and carat and i think it''s definitely worth it.

the price sounds good to me but i would highly recommend shopping around a bit more, calling places and seeing what kinds of prices they have for similar stones. that''s why my fiance did before realizing no one could beat union diamond''s price.

Thanks for the feedback. I have shopped around quite a bit, but came this is the first stone that really stood out as having all the qualities I want. I kind of wish I could bump it up over 1.4 ct and go down to VS2, but I didn''t see anything that looks as good as this like that. Also, WhiteFlash has given me the best service, I e-mailed other vendors more than 2-3 weeks ago and still haven''t had a reply, Whiteflash got back to me within about 24 hours, very impressive. They alos have very reasonable prices on their platinum settings, which is nice. I could go to a different vendor (like those who haven''t replied) and get the diamond for $200 cheaper. In the end I''m willing to pay $200 for service and response.

I''m glad I''ve got the weekend to think this whole thing over and do a little more research.

I think your stone looks really nice. I also have a J 1.25 marquise - jewelers and even the appraiser thought it was a higher color. If you like the stone and the price seems reasonable then by all means purchase it. You always can use the independent appraiser to see it first before you lay out the cash. I bought from Whiteflash and they are top notch.

I like the cut, but wonder why you would accept easily seen low color rather than a more colorless stone with lower clarity.

You will see a steep price rise that is real and justified because you are buying a budget color.
I would drop clarity and size personally. But it will be a nice sparkly diamond.

He tried Garry. Seems he''s in the same boat I was. 1.15 carat H and I SI1''s were available when I upgraded but both were beyond my price point. I got a larger diamond, 1.25 carat, lower color J, with better clarity, VS2 for less money. I have a gorgeous diamond and ring that I am extremely happy with.

That is my personal preference as well. I don''t like what I call extreme combinations of clarity and color, IF J, I1 D, but that''s only my preference.

Having shopped the 1.25 to 1.4 range recently, it would be challenging for CM to find a VS2/SI1 G/H or even a clean SI2 that well cut for less than $6K as PQ notes.

For that size of stone and that cut, it''s appears to be reasonably priced. I would sacrifice clarity down to SI2 to improve the color to stay close to teh size range, but I''m more sensitive to color than clarity. Another option is to drop below 1.25 where the price per carat drops as Garry points out

I am by no means an expert, but I recently received a 1.5 carat round "J" diamond and it is breathtaking to all who see it. Every day as I stare at it I wonder how it could have possibly received a "J" color.....when placed in folded white paper it is STILL absolutely colorless, and when placed in folded paper with OTHER "J"s we could pick this one out every time. The others showed yellow, this one never did. I sacrificed size to go with this one simply because it showed no yellow. Once I saw the yellow on the other ones, even though they were bigger, I couldn''t turn back. Go with your gut, and your eye. Place it in folded white paper along side some others. You''ll then get a feeling of whether or not the color bothers you.
Good luck!
Sue

Wow!! That''s a pretty stone! Please post some pics when you get it mounted.

Thanks again for the advice and feedback.

Garry, I was originally searching for closer to 1.5 CT, SI1 J or higher, excellent cut, and I started working with Whiteflash. This one popped up on a search and it had such good specs and tested well so I decided to have them bring it in. It has been evaluated as "The diamond looks good, not yellow at all. Our guys called it a "toughly graded J"" from Henry at WF. In my searches I haven''t found one within my price range (under $6500) that are equal to this one.

Do you think I should have the diamond sent to an independent appraiser before having it set, if i elect to purchase it? I would like an independent evaluation, without giving them details on what GIA graded the diamond. If I were to do that, any recommendations?

Thanks and hope everyone is having a nice weekend!

So should I have this diamond independently appraised before I buy? Do others do this? If I do, any recommendations?

Thanks!

The stone looks very pretty! (I wish I had more expertise than just telling you that I like the way that it looks.)

I am a whiteflash customer, and I couldn''t be happier. They reset my diamonds and did an amazing job.

Best, Mary
