Hi.

I am contemplating purchasing a diamond ring with a 1.03 carat fancy light pink diamond (SI1). I am trying to determine what value the main diamond would have. I have a picture and GIA report. The other diamonds total almost about 1.4 carats and the setting is platimum. We have been discussing between $20k and $30k. Love the ring but want to be sure I don't overpay.

It's hard for me to read the report. Brownish pink you might be able to work with the budget. Pure pink/purple pink you're looking at much more.

Ah, I see. Fancy light and over a carat you might pay more.

The report says "natural fancy pink lgiht", clarity SI1.

The color looks good for a fancy light pink and price seems quite fair.

Hi All!

Badger ( I loved you in breaking bad btw:)
Have you seen this ring in person- and or - have you checked out the seller?
A lot of red flags here
1) discussing a price between $20k and $30k- wow, that's a huge spread- if they're asking $30k and immediately concede to $20k it clearly shows they are not serious in the asking price- which may or may not be a problem.
2) It's not a good deal, it looks like a steal. It's way below market. This is not necessarily a good thing- and can indicate serious problems. Unless it's a distress sale by a private individual or non jewelry business, the odds a serious dealer would be selling such a stone at such a price are extremely slim.

Hi,

The ring looks beautiful in the picture. I hope you have seen the diamond or will be able to return it. Please have the ability to put the money in an escrow account or be sure you are getting what you are paying for. The diamond looks to be more saturated than a fancy light diamond to my eyes.

Rock Diamond is right-- this seems too good to be true. The price is very good and you might be lucky--I never discount that, but be careful. I wish you luck in this purchase. its looks lovely.

The reason the FCD looks more saturated than a fancy light is due to the setting. It is set in a very enclosed setting (deepens the tone), probably has a cup underneath (increases perceived tone and saturation) and is set in rose gold (also increases perceived saturation).

but I consider that a good thing. It is not always easy to find a jeweler who can set a pink diamond to its best advantage.

Absolutely agree with you, PinkJewel. Just explaining why the FCD looks more strongly coloured than expected.
