Hello all. I have a question please. I recently purchased a ring online someone had gotten from a pawnshop. I paid 150 for the ring and she said she paid 250. I absolutely love the ring but I don't really know anything about the stone. Can anyone help me please

Did it come with any paper work? I'm guessing for $150 it's most likely a lab created stone because it's a big stone and a pink sapphire that size would be very expensive.
Enjoy it!

No paperwork unfortunately :(. A lady had pawned it and wasn't able to get it back so someone else bought it and I bought it from her. I found it on Facebook. It's 10kt white gold and the diamonds are real

The pawnshops only test the diamonds not other stones and go by weight

Here's a few more pictures. It's a little lighter in the sun

I don't think we can tell from pictures if it's a genuine pink sapphire. I would send the thing off for a AGL GemBrief, or you could try to find a reputable appraiser who can tell you what it is.

Good idea. Or even bring it to a local jeweler for an opinion.

I've tried that actually. Don't really have any around me that can test stones :( that's why I came here

Pretty ring. I would not bother to get it tested. Most sapphires that are clear and vibrant as your pictures show would be set in at least 14k gold. Most likely 18k or platinum. The 10k gold setting predicts it is a CZ or lab stone.

Well I've seen real diamonds with goldtone also. I actually have a smaller lab created one and they're almost the exact same color. I was just hoping I found a diamond in the rough so to speak I guess and hoping I didn't pay entirely too much for a cz

The colour reminds me more of pink CZ but that's just a guess considering the size, clarity and other factors.

To me, this is another case of "too good to be true to be real".

DK :))

you bought this thing online and paid 150 bugs?
there is actually no reason to go somewhere for a test.
you will hear one of two results: glass or synthetic.
nothing else.

you`re welcome

I didn't buy it online I found it online. The lady had gotten it at a pawnshop where someone hadn't been able to get it back out. She was asking 250 but I got it for 150

I went to Kay's jewelry right after I got it and the lady told me it was a created pink sapphire but she couldn't test it

u got ur answer then..

Odds are that it's probably synthetic. Without knowing where it came from or any real story behind it, that's what we have to assume.

Now, having said that, pawn shops typically pay per gold weight no matter what stones are in them, unless it's a sizeable diamond or unless you have paperwork on the stone. So, there could be a chance that it's a real sapphire, it's just not that likely.

So, you could pay to have to sent to AGL, but that'd be another $120ish (can't remember) and they could tell you its synthetic.

Either way, it's a beautiful ring and you should wear it proudly!

Uh yeah, because I totally trust a Kay's salesperson's word. They always have years of experience in the field and are all GIA Graduate Gemologists...

That is sarcasm.

LOL exactly what I was thinking! I definitely wear it proudly I'd been wanting a pink stone. My fiancé told her 150 because we knew it was gold and real diamonds but nothing about the stone. She didn't either because the pawnshops don't really check anything but diamonds. It's a beautiful ring. I just had to get a prong replaced because one of them was missing and the stone was loose but he couldn't check the stone either

I just thought about but the prong could be why she only got 250 for it from the pawn shop

they buy synthetic gem jewellry in american pawn shops?
i feel funny sbout that..

I'm assuming yes because everyone I've been to doesn't test the stones unless it's diamonds. Just go by gold weight really

Found a clue maybe. It has an AV stamped inside next to the 10k

No idea what that means :/

AV is the hallmark of the maker. I'm not familiar with such things but JewelFreak might know more.

Any help I could get would be great

This is what the mark looks like
