I’m looking into purchasing a pink sapphire. I may not set it yet, as I’m not sure what kind of setting I want, but I’d like to have it set into a ring eventually.

Ideally, I’d like to keep the stone under $1,000.

I’ve been looking at natural sapphire company, and like this stone:

https://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/1.12ct-madagascar-cushion-pink-sapphire-p3348-/

However, I don’t know very much about sapphires and if it would be a good stone.

I’m open to suggestions, and I’m open to different shades of pink (I also really love the idea of a light pink emerald cut pink sapphire).

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I often tell people to avoid NSC because their stones are typically poorly cut and overpriced. What is your ideal size/shape? Happy to help!

In addition to what @chroman said, look at the pink sapphires on the gemfix site--many are over budget, but you can "filter" to only show the ones that are under 1K and there are some gorgeous ones!

Some other pink options (tourmaline and spinel are also durable enough for rings) from Litnon:

Might be smaller than you want, but the color is amazing!

Great size and excellent price

Peachy pink color that looks really nice

EDIT: this one is for sale on LT from a PSer and looks like a wonderful color!

5D89A0DA-41BC-485F-94BB-358F7844B3C9.jpegHmmm, not overly impressed by the colour (sort of brownish) or the cut. I think you can find much nicer out there as others have suggested.
Others gems, as suggested, are spinel and tourmaline.
And just as a scale reference for you, this is a 1.10 carat ruby (same density /size as sapphire both being corundum) on a size 5.5 finger (my daughters).

Spinel also does pink very well - if you’re not totally tied to having a sapphire, but rather a nice pink durable stone, it might be something to consider.

For example:

Oh wow, I didn’t know about spinel! I’m going to take some time to look at the options. You guys have linked a lot of very beautiful stones! Thank you so much! I’ll be back to let you know what I choose.

I love the color of this sapphire! I really like the oval shape. I’m just not sure if it’s too small? I was hoping for something a little bit bigger, I guess.

This is how I plan to set it (this is a local jewelers setting, it would be a right hand ring).

What do you guys think? Should I go bigger?

I LOVE this setting. And what’s the blue stone? Looks like an irradiated blue diamond

It is a blue diamond. It was at a local jewelers. I don’t know very much about colored diamonds, but they said it had been treated. The wedding band that’s with it is only $210. I’ll probably get that wedding band when the time comes (assuming it looks ok with my engagement ring).

OMG I love that spinel at finewater. Thats a really good price on it too.

If you're looking for a pink emerald cut stone...a PSer has this pink spinel listed on LT right now for <$1000:

I've been staring at it for weeks but the only thing holding me back is that it's not a calibrated size. I have a very specific setting I'd want it to go in, but right now I'm too broke/lazy to go with a custom setting. So I've been hoping that someone will snap it up and put me out of my misery.

Its considered very silky versus crystalline which won't be to everyone's taste. (I love these types of stones and have one thats red:love:) but you're right about the price being extremely good. However if it were a more crystalline stone, it would be more money.

That is a gorgeous stone. What is a calibrated size? Is that a size that will fit in a standard setting? I guess that would be a concern of mine too.

I’m still on the lookout. Jeff White has a light pink oval sapphire on his site now, but it’s more than I wanted to spend. Any other sites I could look?

Maybe you can negotiate the price of the pink sapp. It has been on his site for a long time

Yeah, I use calibrated/standard size interchangeably but that may not be accurate. But I'm referring to 5x7, 6x8, etc. I already have other pieces I want to set/reset, so it doesn't feel right to buy another stone that might end up sitting in my box indefinitely.

Are you starting to lean more towards one shade of pink over another? If you really like the lighter colors (baby pink), the JW you linked is a gorgeous choice. If you sign up for his "Gem Scoop" newsletter, you can get a 10% discount on gems before he makes them available to the general public. Maybe he'll be willing to extend the 10% discount to you since the stone has been unsold for a while. Hope you hear back from him soon with good news.

I’m definitely leaning toward the lighter pink colors. I feel like the color would look right on me since I’m fairly pale, whereas a darker pink may wash out my color. I also don’t want a pink so light that it loses its color or appears white though.

I’m slightly torn because I’ve always wanted a blue sapphire too. I can’t do both right now though, so I’m trying to decide which one I want more. I don’t really feel like I can do justice to a blue sapphire though, with less than $1000.00. I don’t know a lot about sapphires though, so maybe I’m wrong.

How does heat affect sapphires? Is it undesirable?

Heat will make the color of a sapphire more even, but works against a diaphanous Crystal look, potentially reducing the transparency or muddying the color. Below $1000, though, it really doesn't matter. Go for the pink that appeals to you the most. If you're trying to do it on a budget, you might also consider calibrated sizes for settings, or buy a ready-to-wear ring close to $1000 or under.

Here are some (in my opinion) well priced options for pink or blue sapphire ready-to-wear from Etsy.

I've heard good things about ArtesanJewelry, but don't know whether the sapphires they work with are lab or natural ones. Imo lab sapphires are genuine sapphires too, identical in physical and chemical properties.

You can own both pink and blue sapphires for less than $1000, already set into rings!
