Pink Spinel or Sapphire

I'm on the hunt for a pink spinel or sapphire for a right hand ring. To the extent the stone has undertones I prefer purple and red flashes to peach or orange flashes. I haven't picked a setting, but I saw this and its the general look I'm going for.

I'm looking for a stone that is around 1.5-2 carats because I'm hoping for something that is at least 7mm by 7mm. Flexible on shape and color but want at least a medium pink color that is well saturated and high brilliance. I think I have a slight preference for a cushion cut but I really want a great colored stone with good sparkle. Budget is $2-3K. I've found these so far, which are all colors I like:

Oh, yes! I'd buy that. Period. haha I didn't look for it because I figured it had sold already.
 
Oh wow, the Finewater one is stunning. Its a bit smaller than I wanted but that would probably be ok. And the price is really good. Tough decisions!
 
I emailed Minousbijoux to see if it was still available, but I like your back up choice too!
 
i had a very annoying experience with gemfix recently. Because of there bad customer service, their expensive shipping, and the fact i think their photos are "BEST CASE SENARIO" and dont accurately reflect the more everyday image of the stone, i would not buy from them

I have not purchased from them, but many of their stones are from gems2000 , and their stones are also taken in extra flattering lighting.
 
Minousbijoux's mahenge spinel is still available!!! I should totally get it right, because she has awesome taste and I'm unlikely to find anything better, right? (PS veterans this is where you tell me resounding yes). Like if I don't do this I will always regret it and this will be the stone that got away.

RESOUNDING YES!!!!! If I had the funds I would 100000% snap that baby up. Minous has amazing taste, and no way you'll find something that incredible for the price. :appl:
 
Go for Minousbijoux's. 1.8ct is a lovely size and that colour is amazing!

Are you kidding me? You can't beat that price for the quality. Minou buys some of the best / most beautiful gems so I wouldn't even hesitate (trust me, if I could have, I would have bought that one for myself). :love:
 
SparkliesLuver - what did you dislike about Gary's spinel? The pictures make it look well saturated and well cut. I saw desertrose's pictures and the only thing I could identify was a slight look of color zoning, but that could have just been the photo.
 
Oh, did she see it too? I missed her pictures. :( I sent it back because in my eyes it wasn't as electric as it appeared in his photos, had some extinction and a small window. And overall it just didn't grab me.
 
I'm sure someone will love it! It just wasn't the stone for me. I'm also pretty particular since I want my stones to look good in my office, and the lighting is less than desirable. So when stones don't pass that "test," I typically don't bother to look at them in natural lighting (since I know they'll look better). I totally agree with your second point about being hard to compete with Minou's stone. I'd buy it too if I had the funds right now!

In all honesty, I feel that 99% of vendors post pictures of their gems in the BEST case scenario, so I buy the stone for review with that in mind.
 
I'm working out the details with Minous at the moment, so yes, I'm hoping to buy it and I'm super excited too!!!

I'm going to see some possible settings this weekend, but I've also been thinking about getting something from CvB, possibly something custom. This setting has the clean head / basket, but I would prefer miligrain rather than carving, and double claw prongs I think I would like:

I had originally planned a WG/Platinum setting (depending on cost) but now I'm wondering if rose gold might look better. Does anyone have a picture of a really bright spinel in a rose gold setting? I found this one from JuliaB but I'm having a hard time imagining prongs rather than a bezel.

So Minous said she would be away from her email for most of the day today, which is why she hasn't replied to my email, but I've managed to get sooo excited about the spinel that its like torture! Is this normal?!? Please tell me that you all get like this from time to time!
