Hi Everyone;
From what I have read on here some of you live in or near NYC, as do I. So I was just wondering if anyone knew any good gem dealers in NYC that sell pink spinels, I have looked on here and saw some deals but I think it is better to actually see the stone in person. But if you all think it probably is fine I found a place on here that seems to have good prices.
Also, once I get the stone, any suggestions on where to get it mounted, or again is looking on here probably a better deal?
Thanks

Phil

What shade of pink are you looking for? Do you have any sample pictures? Here is a purple-red spinel, not pink, but it is very beautiful.

I am looking for a light pink, sort of the color of a pink diamond. I have a picture of one i like, I dont know how to include the picture, so I put the link on the page, thanks

I have a very beautiful unheated violetish pink sapphire. The color and sparkle are just like fancy purplish pink diamond. It also has a bit fire. It is so spectacular under any lighting condition. Here is the picture.

Oh I just loved that! So I had to post the pictures for everyone to see. May I ask if you like this one why you dont buy it? Is it simply too much? Or too big? Oh it is just so girly...and in a nice way.

Hi thanks for posting the pictures of the stone.
I am thinking of just buying that one, it fits in my price range, and i love the color of it.
I just thought it may be better to see it but it is exactly what I want so prob my best bet is to buy it now if it somehow looks different in person I can send it back most likely.
thanks

Phil

Hi Matatora,

I have a white gold ring I had made with that shade of pink and completely clean. I think the stone is about 5cts and oval cut. It is from Pamir. I haven''t seen many like it.

Oh that pink spinel is just incredible!!!

where did u buy and how much? anyhow beautiful: is it natural ( not heated or treated) and what is the weigh

by the way the cut of the pink ???? is to retain the weight and not the beauty

the color is beautiful but the cut is to retain the weigh

when it comes from thailand: natural has different meaning: natural but heated or treated ???? is another story

I went to the link and go to yourgemologist.com: you will find that what that dealer call as sapphire is very questionning :looks at the number of branches of so called sapphire

Hi everyone;
Thanks for your feedback, I bought that one stone I put on the post.
I know the sort of setting I want for it.
Is it best to pick out a setting in person or is it ok on the internet? thanks

Phil

What sort of setting are you considering? Is this for an engagment ring? What sort of wedding band will go with it?

Hi thanks a lot of the response.
I am not looking for it to be an engagement ring, its more of a "getting more serious ring"
I want it to be a four prong setting, with pave diamonds down half the shank and then if possible on the prongs.
We saw a ring like that in tiffanys two months ago but it was a pink diamond and was 1.8 million
thanks

This seem to fit the description, pave on prongs & all and your pink spinel would definitely fit the proportions just like this.

And then...

this one comes from Karen Bleifer

Just a thought - that large, beautiful pink spinel surely is thought-provoking !

thanks, wow that is a gorgous setting, thank you

Hi Everyone;
I have heard that spinels are not good for every day use in a ring. I was wondering if that is true? I know they are not as hard as a sapphires but I know they are a 8 as compared to a 9. I was not sure if that made such a big difference. Thanks

It doesn''t... Moh''s scale is not liniar, there''s no sensible difference between these two. Besides, durability does not come down to hardness alone.

I have no idea where this story of colored stones not being sturdy enough for wear comes from

It should sound absurd when taking into account for how long they''ve been in use anyway.
