So someone else''s post about labor charges for their florist prompted me to look at the quote from my florist. For my place cards I asked her for long clear glass trays with grass growing in them. I''m going to use picks to insert the placecards into the grass. She''s charging me $500 for this- and honestly as the budget is spiraling out of control I''m thinking I could easily grow some grass in trays on my own for a lot less than $500. I grow my cat grass all the time. The problem is I''m having trouble finding a clear glass tray or even a couple smaller trays. I wish I could find the picture that inspired this idea, but I can''t. So if any of you have any suggestions on where to find such a tray, I''d really appreciate it. TIA.

We're doing grass with a manzanita branch and i was quoted $250, and I'm in a major metro area, so pretty much everything has been expensive.
What about doing fake grass right on the table and putting rocks or something around the edges? I've seen fake wheatgrass sheets at saveoncrafts.com.

ETA-- it also might be easier to find plexiglas trays than glass if you're thinking of something pretty big. Other than that, ask for lots of pyrex baking dishes for your shower??? (JK)

Plexiglass is a great idea. You could go to tap plastics and get a quote to have it special made.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I never thought to look for candleholders or considered plexi-glass. The square glass bowl that was posted is very much like what I''m looking for, but perhaps a bit bigger and a little less tall. Although that could definitely work, and the price is nice! I found a couple things that may work. What do you think of these? One isn''t glass, but it matches my wedding colors. Do you think two inches tall is too short? I would basically take three or four of these and place them in a row and then use picks (kind of like the ones they use to insert cards into floral arrangements) to display the placecards.

the glass one is what i am using for my glass flat centerpieces (sample pics soon). we are cutting the grass flats in half and putting river rocks in the space between the edge of the flat and the outside of the container (half a flat is slightly smaller than 12X12). But I LOVE the green if it matches your colors!! Then you won't be able to see the bottom of the grass and you don't even have to add anything (it has about an inch and a half of dirt and roots). Great finds!!

ETA -- what a great site! a lot of that stuff would be great even as home accents. some of the wood vases are gorgeous!

save-on-crafts.com has some stuff.. also, check Michaels or similar for some. I see them all the time..
