I desperately need to dress pants for work. I really need BROWN which seems to be a hard color to find this year. I''ve looked all over my home city and had no luck. I''m going to be in downtown Chicago this Thursday. I will have about 4 hours total to shop so I''m trying to get an idea of the best places to look for pants.

Pants requirements.

Cost--no more than $125
Color--brown
Fabric--NO WOOL--I''m very allergic
Style--modern, dressy, slightly below waist, wider legs.

Any suggestions on stores or departments in the bigger stores to try? I can find the main dept stores, but I''m sure there are some smaller stores I''ve never even heard of.

Thanks!

I''m jealous - Michigan Ave. is such a great place to shop. I''m a big fan of Nordstrom''s.

BCBG had a ton of pants that mostly met those requirements! Although many of them were slightly above your budget. But if you can catch a sale they should be perfect.

Many department stores carry the line (I know Macy's does) and I am pretty sure they have a store themselves downtown...

Hi,
I''d go with the dept. stores: Macy''s (which has great sales most of the time these days), Lord & Taylor, Nordstroms, Sak''s, Neiman Marcus.
You can also browse through the stores in the Water Tower.

Hope that helps.

Nordstroms.

Or... if you have time, there is one, and you feel like hunting a bit... Nordstrom Rack. I just bought three pairs of work pants, machine wash slacks, no wool (unless it''s wool it bugs me) and for a steal... 25 a pair! (Marked down from about 100). Ateleire or something is the brand.

ID, if you''ve only got 4 hours, I would totally go with Nordies, and I would even go so far as to call ahead to see if one of the gals will pull some pants for you to try on when you get there. If they''re way too busy or no one gets back to you quickly enough via phone, go online and use their interactive live chat thingie to see if the MA store carries anything you like that you find online.

Have fun shopping...I would totally meet you and offer my personal shopper abilities but I''ll be working all day!

Thanks everyone for the advice. It looks like the big dept stores are the way to go.

And Monarch..I had no idea Nordies had a personal shopper that I could call. How does that work? It would be fun to meet up with and do the personal shopper thing :) I''m about 1 1/2 east of Chicago so we could probably make that work one weekend :)

I''d try The Gap or Banana Republic. I know that Gap has a flagship on Michigan Avenue.

Well, I just got back from Chicago and wanted to report in on my pants quest. I did have luck...at Filene''s Basement on Michigan Ave. I wasn''t really ready for the big dig to find pants but I had success fairly easily. I did look around some in the dept stores but didn''t find anything I liked in brown. Black & grey are the much more popular colors. I wound up getting some Theory pants for $39. Yippee!

Oh good for you! I always have such a hit-or-miss experience at FB. Either I walk out of there with loads of stuff, or I can''t find anything AT ALL so I''m glad you got what you were looking for.

I love that FB! When I used to live in Chicago I shopped there all the time. It was hit or miss but it was a fun treasure hunt! I was going to also suggest Ann Taylor or Banana Republic. That''s where I find most of my work clothes.

Great job, ID! I have a hard time with discount OTR (off the rack) stores because I''m tall...I''m always envious of those who find great deals in places like these! I''m glad you found some pants!!! Yay for Theory--Mara has given that brand kudos and we all know she wouldn''t steer us wrong.

Have a wonderful and merry Christmas and enjoy your pants purchase...I''m so glad your Chicago trip was fruitful.
