I had vintage 1920''s platinum ring semi-mount on which, I recently replaced the head. Today I noticed that when I took it out of my jewelry box a necklace I have with a magnetic closure was stuck to the head?!

I understand that platinum can be slightly magnetic but my shank has virtually no discernable magnetism and the new head has a strong pull. Is the alloy for the head different? Why would there be discrepancy????

Thank you!

Edit: OOPS, I''m sorry, I shouldn''t have posted in this section. How can I move my post?

Probably the best thing to do is to find a local jeweler who either has an electronic metal tester or can do a scratch test to make sure its platinum.

I am not sure that the alloy would cause this "reaction" since most platinum is 90% pure, or more.

As to moving the post - PM Leonid, and he can do it for you.

Thank you, I''ll follow your sage advice! To the jewelers credit they did a beautiful job but I was really taken by surprise when I fished out my ring and the necklace came up with it!
