Platinum jewelry?...I had NO idea

In this case, I DO suggest doing a search on platinum over White Gold. When white gold scratches, I beileve it loses it's weight, like some of the white gold chips off.
Platinum actually scratches, but since it is somewhat soft, it moves around, and DOES NOT lose weight. Meaning after 15-20 years of use, you will have a lighter WG band than a platinum band that retains the metal, even with scratches.
Maybe titanium would have suited...?

Everything scratches. White gold scratches just as much as platinum, my white gold band is a mess at times. Reconcile yourself to having things polished every few months and it will look like new. I would not mix platinum with white gold personally...the white gold needs replating every few years and will not appear the exact same as platinum in terms of the color and sheen.

Hi - I think you can get away with mixing ( I am trying it) if the different metals are not on the same hand (or an ear - or, Mara - a toe! teehee!). I would definitley get plat wedding band to go with plat e-ring!!!
SND Gems has a very good tutorial on platinum and white gold and their differences. Nicrez makes a great point about the different way that plat scratches (displacement) than gold (skimmed off). For me, the only thing that stops me from getting platinum everything is price!
Some people prefer white gold to plat. b/c it seems warmer (antiwue settings and certain cuts of stones look great with yellow gold while some prefer the way plat enhances the whiteness of a stone). This is becuase gold is yellow. Over time, as the ring becomes more worn (despite polishing) the gold overtone will become stronger. One way to diminish this (natural) "yellowing" effect is to buy 14k white gold instead of 18k - this also makes the ring a bit tougher - b/c it has less gold in it - less gold, less yellow! It is the alloy that is mixed with the gold that determines its final colour. EG -copper added to gold makes rose gold.
I have not experienced the "graying" of platinum. This seems to be subjective. But, like any jewelry - it needs TLC.

Adding to what Wallace said about keeping the WG & platinum on separate hands...from what I've read, that's pretty important.
Platinum is harder than gold and will actually wear down your gold ring over time (for instance if you have a platinum e-ring and WG band, the e-ring could wear down the band.) I'd think this would be a SUPER big problem if your band had diamonds set in WG that could become thinner/weaker after a few years of wear against your platinum e-ring.
Good luck with your search...I'm struggling with this right now, too. All of my friend's platinum rings look great to me. I'll have to ask them if/how they care for them, but they don't look gray at all.
