WTB Platinum setting for ~6.7 x 4.5 mm diamond

Hi all,

I am hunting for an inexpensive temp setting for my new stone which measures 6.69 - 6.71 x 4.46 mm

I am looking for platinum, open to some diamond embellishments but something simple and solitaire preferred

Range size 6-9 (I am size 7.5)

I am *really* trying keep it close to $300 as possible which may not be possible..basically using this as a temp setting while a decide on my final home for my stone so I’m hoping to keep it inexpensive

The setting currently holds a 6.6mm OEC. I need to ask a jeweler if the setting can hold your stone, but I don’t mind letting it go for $350 plus shipping if you like the design. The ring was sold to me as a size N, but I never bothered to check.

Oh it is nice! Thank you for sharing photos!!! Do you find the prongs catch on things at all?

This might be a more nitty gritty question to ask (maybe if you ask your jeweler about size of stone anyways?) I can't tell if it has claw prongs - I know they aren't the most stylish but I prefer tab or "blob" prongs because I find they don't catch fuzz...I am trying to figure out if I would have to pay to rebuild the prongs...I hate claw prongs with every fiber of my being for snagging and catching lint / fuzz and I couldn't make them work even temporarily with a different setting

My finger size is a 3.25, so I never got to wear the ring. I think those are claw prongs. I’m sorry :/ I have no idea how much it costs to rebuild prongs.

Hmm...I wish I knew more about this! I have never attempted to rebuild prongs...I can look into it!

I’m not sure if this would work with your stone - you would need to verify with your jeweler.

Its sized at 7.25. I wore the ring for a week or so and then had a change of mind and decided upgrade to a custom setting.

I worry it might be the same issue with the other preloved JA solitaire for sale now - almost same size stone...

It is beautiful. Are the prongs claw prongs by chance? They do look a bit pointed? I need to reach out to a jeweler and figure out the best course of action / what is possible (i.e. changing claw prongs)

No worries at all. Yes it had claw prongs, I am not an expert by any means but I think a good jeweler would be able to work with you on prong style. But like you say best to get some advice!

Thanks to those who have shared settings - I contacted multiple jewelers as I was a bit surprised to be quoted $150 to just set the stone, and rebuilding prongs was estimated to be the same or more....

The setting holding a 1.6c stone is too large / wasn't recommended

I would still be eager to look at non claw prong rings, I think rebuilding the prongs would make it less advantageous from a cost perspective.

You should go for it! I decided to pass on the temp setting once I calculated total costs - i can close the thread - or others can use it to fill similar needs!
