Hello! I am looking to upgrade my current diamond and found two potential stones that are both VS1. The confusing thing for me is, even though both are VS1 (AGS certs), one has inclusions on the table where the other does not. Would someone please explain how both can be VS1 stones. I thought VS2 would show inclusions on the table (near the center), not VS1. Please see the below screenshots of the certs. Would the VS1 stone on the top cause a pause for purchasing (this is the stone that I am leaning towards). I am not sure about what looks to be a feather on the table area should be a concern. Thank you for your advice!VS1 A.pngVS1 B.png

Inclusions based on the number and location but not exclusive of the table. That means that a VS1 can have inclusions in the table area. More than likely, they will not be visible with the naked eye. Not sure where this diamond is coming from, but can the vendor look at it and tell you their thoughts?

Thank you for your response! The vendor said that there are no concerns with the inclusions as this stone is eye clean. I just wanted to be sure since there is a feather...

I would modify this comment by adding the word "size". I. E., Inclusions based on the size, number and location...

Further considerations would the type of inclusions, whether opaque or clear, color, etc.

Most VS1's will not show many inclusions, as VS1 quickly becomes VS2 when you add more inclusions. Some of my most interesting sales had diamonds with interesting inclusions, such as a bright red included crystal most likely garnet, and another with bright green included crystals. Still SI and eye clean, they were particularly fun to share with my clients under the microscope.

One of my most unusual was an SI1 with an included crystal shaped like the runabout on the TV Show Deep Space One. My client was a fan of this show and quickly decided her original requirement for a VVS2 was out the window...

Hi Wink! Thank you for your time in responding to my question; I greatly appreciate your knowledge! I am thinking the top VS1 diamond will be a non-issue with the feather?

You are welcome,

Being on the underside of the diamond, below the girdle, I have a hard time imagining that you will find it any kind of an issue at all. Without having a good loupe and knowing how to use it well, I think you will have a hard time even finding the feather.

I feel better! Thank you, Wink!

Please tell me you aren't giving up your current diamond!!!

Hi diamondseeker! I am really on the fence about selling this diamond as I really love it! We are going to be celebrating a milestone anniversary and are looking at a larger OEC with the same facet pattern and superior optics as my stone. One minute, I am ready, and the next I don't think I can part with it!
